Nov 17...Lane...PIRATES WILL HOST...10:21 am

Henry has been talking about the Championship game taking place in Texas.  I predict that ECU beats UAB and SMU will lose to Marshall.   Marshall does not lose a lot of games at home, and I think they will beat SMU this weekend and Marshall is favored by 4 points.

Also, if Tulsa can beat Southern Miss and we beat UAB, we at least clinch our division.

I would really like a home championship game, but I'd almost rather face SMU in Texas, than Houston here.  But it would be awesome to have another home game on ESPN!

Nov 11...Steven...VETERANS DAY AND MORNING CALLER...4:44 pm

First off, happy Veterans Day to all who have served and sacrificed for us. As a 25 year old veteran of the Marine Corps now attending ECU, I am grateful for all my brothers and sisters in arms, both past and present. And I really appreciate what you do Henry; making talk radio available in this part of North Carolina has allowed me to listen to intelligent radio conversation throughout the day.

I wanted to comment on a caller this morning, someone who called in around 8:30am. This gentleman is either misinformed or misguided. I still can't figure out why he brought up the President at all.  The events that unfolded at Fort Hood are tragic. I agree with you Henry, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that this was in fact a terrorist attack. Why? This was not an act of self defense, nor a random act of violence. This was a vicious, premeditated attack on those who serve our country designed to strike fear on the home front. If this is not terrorism, then I do not know what is.

People forget that terrorism, and evil in general, has many faces. The bombing in Oklahoma was a terrorist attack. The sniper who held D.C. residents emotionally hostage during October of 2002 indeed committed acts of terrorism.

The problem is that there are some people today that immediately associate the word “muslim” with the word “terrorist”, and that is where I think this morning's caller is misinformed. We all know what the shooter said before opening fire. But until an investigation is completed that tells us his true connections, we must speak with facts. The fact is, this was a terrorist act. Now we need to find out why.

Nov 11...Rob...REPUBLICAN PARTY...8:03 am

It sounded to me like you want the Republican Party to be more moderate to get northern states. Bad Idea... The problem with the Republican Party is they are just an altered version of the Democratic Party. We are sick and tired of big government, big spending, crooked politicians, special interests, lies, and politicians that are not looking out for the best interest of the COUNTRY. I for one am ready for a new party that STANDS up for the CONSTITUTION! Why do they not pay taxes? Why is their retirment plan a six figure income for life? I am ready for REAL PEOPLE who stand for Conservative Values to run for office.

PS The White House acted STUPIDLY by not calling the killings at Ft. Hood a Terrorist Attack....

Oct 26...Michael...BOORTZ...7:24 pm

I listen loyaly to your station, and appreciate your conservative leanings and all you do for our community. It assures me I did the right thing in moving here.
Friday I was listening to Neal Boortz speaking about foodstamps. He took a call from a gentleman who was a construction worker , that had lost his job and took foodstamps to provide for his family...
I was so disgusted with Boortz in his vile comments to this man that I would like to request that you remove Boortz from your line up. He actually suggested that the man should have aborted his children rather than not be able to calculate that  the severe recession would not be able to provide work for him to provide for his family. I was so offended by the way Boortz spoke, that I want never to hear him speak again.

I really would like if you would consider the 3rd hr of Laura Ingrahm.. she has way more class than Boortz, anyhow, and she is pro life.
It was heartwarming to hear Star Parker on with you! I took my 14 yo daughter to a pro life meeting which had her as the featured  speaker.  She is such a breathe of fresh air and an inspiration to us!

Thanks so much for MOST all your programming!

Ashley Woolard from Washington just threw his hat in the ring against GK Butterfield.  Please try to get this guy on Talk o' the Town soon.  Would love to see if is what we are looking for in a leader,  or just another stale party line republican.   Get him on and see what he is made of.

Sept 28...John...REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS (ECU)...9:40 am

I totally agree with your comments about ECU football fans expectations that I saw and heard on Chanel 7 Saturday night.
ECU has proven that they can upset a BCS school every now and then, but to expect it every year or on the road is
unrealistic. I have been saying the same thing the past couple weeks to any ECU fan who would listen to me !
I am disappointed in the extreme criticism of Patrick Pinkney also. He completed 60% of his passes against
UNC with no interceptions and no running game. He completed 67% of his passes against UCF with only one
interception and the Pirates won. The lack of a consistent running game is not his fault and makes it more
difficult to have a successful passing game.

Oct 1...Tad...I LOVE WTIB...6:53 pm

I echo the comments of the listener in Washington. I’m in Wilson, and many times my reception on 94.3FM gets overridden by another station. So, I’d love to hear a more powerful signal out of G-Vegas, if that’s possible or permissible.
But, great job, Henry at shining the light of truth through radio!

Sept 17...Quinton...LOVE WTIB'S PROGRAMS...12:16 am

Great line up all day, I love every minute of it! I only wish your signal was a little stronger. I live in Washington NC and sometimes travel to surrounding towns and you fade out more often than other channels and WTIB is the one I want to listen to.

Sept 14...William...PANTHERS...7:16 am

Does Jake Delhomme have something on John Fox? Why does he continue to be the Panther’s quarterback? But I guess the same could be said of the ECU quarterback. After 6 years, you think they both would be better or gone.

Sept 3...Kenneth...PATRICK JOHNSON ON FRIDAYS...5:16 pm

Take PJ up on his offer to join you on Fridays!

He brings an irreverence that Greenville sorely needs.

Maybe we don’t want him, but we NEED him.

Sept 2...Terry...TODAY'S D.R. EDITORIAL...6:34 am

“While most Greenville residents were sitting down to dinner on Thursday evening, Lorrainne Pearson was confronting a man outside her home who was firing a handgun into the air. Hours later, another gunshot would end her life, leaving her in a pool of blood in the street she sought to protect. This has been a painful summer for Greenville, one that continues to see innocent lives claimed by unacceptable acts of violence.” Daily Reflector Editorial 9/1/09

Absolutely! And to all those out there, including the city council, who think you can solve this problem by talking about it - WAKE-UP!!! More resources are needed- move around some money in city government and get more patrols on the streets and give them better training- ALL OVER TOWN, NOW!!! This poor lady was getting involved! So you people who say the problem is the public is not involved- It cost her, her life ….

Rest in peace, Dear

August 28...Terry...CHIEF ANDERSON AND THE CHAMBER...2:31 am

The Chamber did a great disservice to this community when it made this event a chamber only event. As it was private, I assume that Chief Andersen was off the city clock. If not, he should be docked his pay for the time he spent at the chamber meeting and preparing for it.
I have made a formal complain to the City Manager that NO city employee give any presentation to any private group that excludes the public. My tax dollars are not going to pay for an individual to give private talks around town about public business.
We MUST remove any special interest pandering by our city employees- this is a start- They work for all citizens and must be accountable to all citizens. If its public business its PUBLIC business.

August 27...Terry...TODAY'S INTERVIEW WITH LARRY SPELL...2:04 pm

Only in politics can a 32 year old music teacher , who has no, I repeat no management experience
be interviewed for his solutions to a management problem ( downtown Greenville) and people are asked to believe him
when his answer to a clear question on if the council meeting was a “set-up” is “BULL”.
Then he proceeds to say that, the council asked for solutions from management  before hearing from the public
at a public forum. They did not even listen to the 25 people who spoke, ( his idea of “Bull”)…

Furthermore this “lame duck” ( thank god) councilperson(?) insults Max Joyner who has lived twice
as long as this twerp and has ten times the management experience was “not listening”.

Some voters are blind when it comes to competence in their elected officials. And we wonder why we have these problems.

Aug 18...Terry...TERRY RESPONDS TO CALVIN..10:57 am

“It is a matter of public record that a petition by this establishment was made to the Board of Adjustment. “

As they have that right, correct? Everybody has that right and if Uptown Greenville, the police department or anybody else doesn’t like it , then they can speak against it at that meeting. Shades of discrimination.

Your comments are not the way to go about a concern such as this . The ordinance was developed by hours and hours of negotiations and to link the crime downtown, that was present well before this establishment was even considered,  to this place was the erroneous point on your behalf. In the future I would suggest that you be much more careful in the language you use in your private newsletter as the public , including 99% of our citizens, have no idea what you are talking about other than the shootings.

As an aside, this is what the city gets into when it is involved in areas that are controlled and monitored by the STATE. If the City doesn’t have the manpower or the capability of handling this type of establishment, defer to the governing body, the STATE,  which has the 30/70 rule and monitors it. I am still looking for the information on Christy’s Euro- pub and other non-conforming restaurants that I spoke with you about last year. I believe your words were “file a complaint” which I did and have heard nothing in a year. You see it’s who you know in this town when it comes to city services , not what is correct and proper.

Aug 18...Mike...HENRY'S COMMENTS ON GLENN BECK...10:38 am

Just keep laughing at Glenn Beck while Mark Lloyd, new FCC chair and
“Czar of Radio Diversity” pulls the plug on your microphone.  Glenn
mentioned this guy on his show about a month ago but you know he is a
nut so I thought you’d like another source since more people are
paying attention to Lloyd now.

“In his 2006 book Prologue to a Farce: Communications and Democracy in
America (University of Illinois Press), Lloyd recommended that private
broadcasters be forced to, in effect, heavily subsidize their
competition: those public broadcasters that already receive millions
in taxpayer dollars each year. “

Quoted source from
http://www.examiner.com/x-722-Conservative-Politics-Examiner~y2009m8d17-FCCs-new-Diversity-Czar-revives-Fairness-Doctrine-fears

Just another example of Glenn and others like him pointing things out
that others think are initially absurd.

Aug 18...Karen...GLENN BECK...7:38 a

It might help if you listened to the substance and content of Glenn Beck’s show, instead of his flamboyant delivery.  He’s saying what no one else in the

Media has the guts to say.  Michelle Malkin was exposing ACORN about 2 years ago, if not more and no one was listening.

Aug 17...Calvin...CITY COUNCILMAN RESPONDS TO TERRY ON DINING ORDINANCE...8:45 p

Dear Terry,

Regarding your August 15 email about the comments in my newsletter concerning the dining and entertainment ordinance, I want to clarify.

As you are well aware, following months of work, council passed this hybrid dining and entertainment ordinance.  I have detailed my view of and my vote on that ordinance thoroughly in various newsletters.

After the ordinance was passed, an establishment downtown, that did not meet the criteria for a restaurant, made petition to the Board of Adjustment for operation under the dining and entertainment ordinance.  The history of this establishment, and its location close to the revitalized Evans Street Mall, has elicited significant concern from many businesses downtown for months.  Business leaders and citizens have expressed their great concern to me about this establishment.  It is a matter of public record that a petition by this establishment was made to the Board of Adjustment.  From what I could find out, it appeared that the Board of Adjustment, a quasi legal board that must act according to strict criteria, would likely, in applying these criteria, have had to grant the petition.  The concern of downtown business leaders and citizens about this establishment is well known to anyone familiar with that area of town.  I'm sure many, if not all, of the people you copied on you email know about this situtation.  From your comments, I assume you are not aware of this situation.  My comments about the "fallout" and "I won't go into the details here, except to say that the downtown district is now having to address issues stemming from the implementation of this ordinance" referred to this establishment that was attempting, and likely would have been successful, to use the dining and entertainment ordinance to continue operating to the great concern of downtown businesses.  I was not here linking the ordinance and the downtown shootings.

Those who have expressed concern to me and to others about this establishment have been relieved that more recently there has apparently been a development, welcomed by those concerned about this establishment and totally apart from anything related to the dining and entertainment ordinance, that may result in this establishment closing down.  Regardless of the outcome of this particular situation, the dining and entertainment ordinance is in place and I still have some concern about how this ordinance may impact our city in the future.

I understand how you made an erroneous assumption about my newsletter comments, and I wanted to clarify that with you.

Sincerely,
Calvin Mercer

August 17...Rob...GLENN BECK...11:31 am

Hey Henry how about not helping the LOONS who are trying to hurt this country. MANY of the FACTS we now have about Acorn and other Groups is due to GLEN BECK. We could probably do some great things if it werent for People on the SAME SIDE slamming EACH OTHER! GOOD GRIEF. Sad...

August 15...DINING/ENTERTAINMENT ORDINANCE AND MERCER'S OBSCENE COMMENTS...8:55

All Greenville:
To relate the  unfortunate murders of two human beings downtown to the recent approval of the dining  ordinance
is an affront to the citizens of Greenville and the council members who voted for it . It is  political grandstanding
at its ugliest.
Mr. Mercer as a council member and a human being should be ashamed of himself for this gross distortion of the situation and
as  a smokescreen for his own political agenda. The murders had absolutely nothing to do with the ordinance. A blatant and outright fabrication by the councilperson- He should be censured by the Council who voted on the ordinance.
Furthermore, he should apologize to the family of the two people who died for using their deaths to promote his own selfish political agenda.
I repeat, it is not appropriate to use the deaths of two human beings to get a few votes or further some agenda with an ordinance that he himself approved.

I have no time for this type of insensitive, obscene political agenda from Mr. Mercer.

From The newsletter exactly as written by Mercer ( red emphasis provided):
“THE DINING AND ENTERTAINMENT ORDINANCE
Another factor in addressing downtown crime is the fallout from this controversial ordinance Council passed some months ago.  As background, a local establishemnt,, which had been operating in violation of city ordinance, pushed hard to have the city pass an ordinance that would allow them to continue operating.  There was tremendous pressure, from different quarters, on Council to move in this direction.  We finally passed a compromise ordinance, creating a "hybrid" category of dining and entertainment establishment that is in between a bar and a restaurant.  In my CC 30 newsletter, I provided all the details about this vote.

There were complicated legal issues involved and, politically, it was clear that some ordinance was going to pass.  On the night of the vote, some of us worked to fight off two amendments that we saw as problematic, and that would have produced a much worse ordinance.  We were able to keep these two bad amendments out of the ordinance.  In this debate, some of us kept making the point that any new ordinance will apply where relevant throughout the city, not just to the Unk's establishment.  As we kept saying, we should be wary about putting in place a category of establishment that could create problems in other places in town.  I think we obtained the best ordinance we could have hoped for at the time, given political and legal realities.  Given the recent crime events downtown, this debate may have turned out differently if it came up now.  But we are now living with the ordinance we put in place and are beginning to see some of the problems that can result from this ordinance.  I won't go into the details here, except to say that the downtown district is now having to address issues stemming from the implementation of this ordinance.  I find that it is politically very difficult to do, but we must always try to do what is in the common good and the long-term interest of the city.  If we take our eye off that ball and cave into short-sighted interests, we are not going to have a city of excellence

End of mercers comments

August 14...Terry...DISAGREE WITH BLUEBIRD ON THIS...12:59 pm

Disagree with bluebird on Elain Majea here
I think all she wanted to do what talk ,talk, talk
And say that the cuts proposed were not that significant
What the devil has the legislature been doing but talking?
And cuts are cuts- not at all impressed

And Henry’s comments were correct that there is too much waste
In Raleigh, be it  funding of universities with their obscene
"retreat rights" to the Mary Easley affair.

No, I think Ms. Majea is part of the problem, not part of the solution- I was not impressed with her or her thinking
In fact, if I did know better, I would say that she was trying to insure her job with this
“we have to keep talking about what to do” mentality..

No, I do not think she knows what she is talking about!!!

August 14...Terry...CITY COUNCIL PICKS NEW POLLING PLACE...11:46 am

it was indeed a bad side of the city council last night- they should have said yes to another site, thanked the people who wanted to donate the money but no thanks instead of ranting about it AND left it up to the proper authorities, the election commission on where to locate it- out of the political process BUT, no the council had to show their behinds and rant on and on. gee!!

August 13...Bluebird...ELAINE MEJIA...9:42 am

Today's guest on "talk of the  town" was outstanding!  It's one thing to make absurd comments into a mike alone in a studio. And  it's an entirely different thing when you have a guest as intelligent as Elain Majea present.   Henry's complaints about  not enough cuts being made in the state budget , specifically the university system, were  answered  very intelligently. It actually made Henry seem kind of petty when he was reduced to complaining about state funding for museums and aquariums.   But kudos' to you Henry. It does get boring just hearing your daily rant with no one to offer an opposing view!   Good Job!  You keep me coming back.

Aug 12...Rob...BUTTERFIELD IN A FAIR DEBATE...1:02 pm

Instead of slanted town halls, have Butterfield on your show with Walter Jones and the Bill. Make a show of it, have them debate both sides using the bill as their reference. That would be Awesome!!

Aug 12...Mike...BUTTERFIELD TOWN HALL...9:21 am

I attended Butterfield's town hall last night.  I am certainly not a
supporter of Butterfield nor a Democrat but I have to commend him for
holding this town hall while knowing the heat he was going to have to
take.  He did face his constituents and that took guts.  People were
allowed to speak and he responded to most every comment and in some
cases allowed a rebuttal.  My problem with this event was it was like
he came off the hill to Rocky Mount to represent Washington, DC.  I
thought we were paying him to represent us in Washington, DC.  His
whole purpose was to tell us how great socialized medicine was going
to be and to demonize insurance companies.  He admitted to not reading
the bill and only reading a few summaries but promised he would read
the whole thing.

On a slightly different subject, I heard Henry mention that he might
try to have Butterfield on his show.  I think that would be good.  I
think it would be even better to have an opponent of the bill on with
him to debate.  Walter Jones might be a good candidate for this if you
can get him.  Just a thought.

August 11...Ted...SEANC AND ACORN...9:38 am

I am a state employee and about a week ago I was looking at the SEANC website trying to find information on the budget. Posted there are pictures of SEANC members protesting Blue Cross Blue Shield and rallying for the proposed health care bill. In one of the pictures was a woman wearing a red ball cap and a white t shirt with the ACORN logo on it. I was immediately concerned that my membership could be going to support such a controversial organization. I sent a general e mail to SEANC and asked what was the relationship between SEANC and ACORN, after a couple of days and no reply I sent another e mail and advise them if I did not receive a response I would cancel my membership and encourage others to do the same. About an hour later I received a call from someone at SEANC. The lady assured me that SEANC had no official relationship with ACORN but stated anyone who showed up to support on of their causes would not be turned away.

A day or two later I went back to the SEANC website and while the picture of the lady wearing the ACORN t shirt is still there it has been photo shopped and the ACORN logo removed. Sadly I did not copy the picture before it was altered,  however I did find it posted elsewhere still unaltered. http://www.wchl1360.com/details.html?id=11059

Here is also a link where you can view the photo as it appears now, you may need to give it just a second as the pictures scroll automatically http://www.seanc.org/

Given what I feel is an obvious attempt at deception by SEANC to hide those behind their protests and the treatment of those speaking against the health care bill at Greenville’s town hall meeting Monday night I have withdrew my membership, I would encourage others to do the same. It is obvious we can not hope to influence SEANC’s positions or policies through reasoned debate,  so lets hit’em where it counts…in the pocketbook.

August 11...Terry...CITY DONATION TO UPTOWN GREENVILLE...9:03 am

Apparently I must be living in a different economic situation than the officials of the City of Greenville.
I also am trying to understand why a city that asks for and receives grants for fire departments
and police officers is now turning into a grantor with this proposed $50,000 grant to Uptown Greenville.

My  hat off to Rose Glover for pointing out the conflict of interest of a Greenville employee
as a board member of Uptown Greenville. My question is “is this city employee doing Don Edwards dirty work for him??”Looks like it. This is clearly against City conflict of interest rules with the money involved.

My hat off to Max Joyner who saw this for what it is – a sham transaction to “bail out” a not for profit
who has spent more money than they can raise. There is an incestuous relationship between the City and Uptown and this $50,000 shows you how far Uptown has come in taking over the City for their purposes. The voters were hoodwinked into approving a $5,000,000 bond for “Center City”.  $1,000,000 for signs?? Isn’t that enough?? Uptown people,  Have you no Shame??

Mr. Kittrell , to his credit was trying to make some sense of this transaction, but you cannot explain a financial transaction that is inappropriate at best and fraudulent ,at worse. He needs to vote No to keep his credibility with the business crowd.

Mr. Mercer once again shows a total lack of financial expertise. Explain this about this so-called contract, Calvin :
“organization for business recruitment  and retention services, beautification efforts, events and promotion, and guidance for public infrastructure downtown.”

Clearly somebody at City Hall has your number, Calvin, and knows that you are not a financial whiz . Calvin, they have found your Achilles heel- anything to do with money . This is already being done by the City . You also said it yourself. The city cannot afford it in the budget so paying somebody else makes it not an expense? Come on!

What part of this cannot the City do with existing staff?? Remember revenues are down. City-wide, inspectors are in a make-work environment to stay employed. City Salary increases are frozen, paper and pencils are at a premium, according to the City Manager. There are a 100 other uses for the $50,000 than doing things that the city is now doing or need not be doing
In this environment

Stop this Bail Out Now! Be it $50,000 or $25,000, the answer is NO…. save it for modest city staff salary increases.

August 10...Thomas...HEALTH INSURANCE...12:40 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew about the possibility that ECU employees were going to have to have weight checks and if the doctor says they over the recommended weight the employees insurance would not be paid for. July 30...Karen...DAILY REJECTOR...7:31 am

We subscribed to the paper for 25 years.  Cancelled recently, due to the fact that this paper is so liberal and slanted, and wasn’t even worthy of wrapping the garbage in.

Plus we had to drive to our mailbox, so figured we would save gas by cancelling.  Get my news on Drudge everyday AND the WITN web site.

July 29...Mike...TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS...8:56 am

OK … “Obamacare” is a ridiculous killer of the free market.  If you don’t believe me check out this article at CNN.com (the folks that helped get him elected) http://finance.yahoo.com/insurance/article/107408/5-freedoms-you-would-lose-in-health-care-reform.html?mod=insurance-health

After hearing about the Beef Barn closing, I saw a great opportunity to enlighten some people about how an economy actually works.  However, most folks that would read this board are already a lot more enlightened than the masses, but here I go on a tangent anyway.  The current economic factors discouraged people from heading out to eat as much as they had in past years.  The Beef Barn sees the situation, and as any great entrepreneur would, changes a current direction to head for possible profits.

NOW… if Obamacare gets signed into law how will that affect the pharmaceutical industry???  If you read the article linked above, you read that your primary care physician will be “assigned.”  What stops the “available” drugs from being assigned?  Competition in the drug market plummets because there is no reason to compete for something that is mandated from above.  Along with competition, the need to spread the info about a particular drug is obsolete, because that will come in the form of new spending for new government agencies.  Those agencies job..??? Tell doctors the info about the drugs they are allowed to prescribe.  It doesn’t really matter if there is a better alternative.

Pharmaceutical drug representatives – People that have a career educating doctors on the best new drug alternatives available from there particular company.  Their jobs under Obamacare would be greatly reduced and possibly completely obsolete.  In a town like Greenville, built on medicine, how would the loss of that market affect Greenville?  The new housing market being pushed by younger business professionals falls.  The subcontractor market takes a hit.  In home services fall off (you can live with the AC not being as cool as you would like).  And the catering market doesn’t just fall it plummets.  How many weddings are there every week? OK … How many lunches are catered to doctor offices in a day?

And now we have come full circle.  Bob Simon, an entrepreneur trying to better his company’s situation, takes another big hit because of the great new ideas out of Washington.  This is why I cannot stand hearing the words, “trickle up economics.”  If the government gave Bob “more money than Davey Crocket” (thanks Forrest) it would have no affect what-so-ever on his ability to get more business…  Watch out everyone; the socialists are coming, and it don’t look good.

This is just a minute piece of the economy, but a great representation of capitalism vs. whatever Obama is trying to do.

July 20...Don...HEALTH CARE BILL...9:21 am

I just called Washington DC to G. K. Butterfields office to give my views on the health care bill. To my shock, when I asked where he stands on this, the lady said she did not know what his view is. Something about this is wrong. You need to keep on him.

July 16...Steve...SMALL BUSINESS AND HEALTHCARE...9:18 am

Small Business will soon be No Business if Obama and the liberals pass the Health Care Bill

I have been in small business all my life.  I presently have 33 truck drivers employed.  Half of the drivers are owner/operators which are contractors the other half drive company trucks.  If this bill is passed, I will be forced to offer the company drivers the option of buying their trucks or umemployment.  These are hard working men with familes that will be forced into umemployment by the Federal Government.  It obvious that Obama and the politicans pushing this bill have never worked at a real job in their lives and have all depended on the Government to provide for them while the small business owners and their employees have been the ENGINE that has provided the employment in this country AND  have continued to taxed the most.

40 years of "programs" introduced by the liberal democrats have created the nannie state and now they want another program that we can't afford.  We must say NO.  The people must stand up and make sure their voice is heard before it is too late.

The BASIC AMERICAN PROBLEM:  TOO FEW WORKING FOR TOO MANY!

July 8...Terry...SECRET MEETING....7:37 am

It is totally inappropriate of the City to have a closed meeting with business owners today at 4:30
to discuss the issues of crime downtown. The DR stated that it is closed to the media. It is important for the city to understand that it is our tax dollars at work and secret meetings with select businesses is not allowed under the sunshine law if there are a number of elected officials at the meeting.
This is totally inappropriate. If the elected officials want people to come downtown they should be transparent in the discussions on the solutions....
This is unacceptable in this Country- If you want help solving these problems, keep the public in the loop!!!!

July 1...J.K....PLAYGROUND... 10:53 am

Last year when Ridgewood Elementary opened, i was shocked when I learned that there was no money for the school to have a playground. It came down to this...if you want the kids to have a playground, start raising money. So, with great work from the PTA, they get a grant for PART of what is needed to get started. If this grant didn’t come through...the kids would still be wandering around looking pretty pitiful at recess. Anyway, in addition to the grant, some local businesses helped bigtime with money and supplies, and everything was in place to get the equipment. Well, enough money is raised to buy the equipment, but it’s going to be another 10k or so to have the playground installed. No problem...the company can send out 1 representative to supervise and we can get a slew of volunteers and that 10k shrinks down to a much more manageable number. So, a lot of good people come out, as well as more help from local business and the playground is installed...its awesome and the kids love having something to do at recess. There is a plan for another playground for the smaller kids, but that will have to wait for the PTA to raise the cash. No big deal, the money will get raised and the playground will be built...it will just take some time. After watching all of this develop last year, it gave me a great feeling about Greenville, from the volunteers who really worked very hard, to the local businesses that helped out in an economic time that stunk.

Ok, so here is my problem...the other day, I am driving down Evans street and I notice the super bad playground that they are building at the housing project. This is one sweet playground and from the Ridgewood playground, I know that this playground they are building cost big dollars. Please don’t mistake my frustration here...I think its great that the projects are getting a playground for the kids that live there...I just don’t get it that we can find the money to build one there, but there is NO money for building the playground at our brand new public school. This is why when I rode by and glanced saw it, I said "What the #*@&!"

June 23...JK...WALMART...8:52 am

No big deal for the city, they will just annex wm and screw the crap out of them

June 21...Terry...GOVERNOR PERDUE...8:48 pm

I don't want everyone to think that Governor Perdue favors the east when it comes to spending the taxpayers' money.  On March 31, 2009 Governor Perdue signed into law Senate Bill 89, spending $12 Million to purchase the land around Grandfather Mountain.  NC did not purchase Grandfather Mountain, only the land around it.  The Morton family will still run Grandfather Mountain.

So with a stoke of a pen, Governor Perdue spent $12 Million, cost surrounding counties property tax revenue on over 2,000 acres (which the Morton family was paying), creates an ongoing expense of maintaining the land and replaces private sector jobs with government jobs.  This is a project that the taxpayers get to keep paying for over and over and over.  And the Morton family has a beautiful state park surrounding the attraction and $12 Million to boot.  I do not blame the Mortons, I would have done the same thing.

But what was Bev Perdue thinking?  We are in the worst depression in 70 years and she is building piers and buying mountains.  Lets see-buy a mountain or build a school? Again Bev Perdue says I know, let's raise taxes and do both.  Tough call Bev.

Let's tell Bev Perdue enough is enough!!!  Make the tough calls or let someone who will be the governor.

And let's extend a special thanks to Mrs. McLawhorn.  She voted yes for the pier AND the mountain.

Jun 19...Terry...STATE BUDGET...9:52 am

The state lost a BILLION dollars to mental health fraud and did not even know it until the News & Observer broke the story.  Has Raleigh done anything to correct this problem?  Not that I have seen.  This BILLION dollars would have gone a long way towards our budget deficit without raising everyone's taxes.

I believe there is other wasteful spending that could be cut before we raise taxes.  Is it true that the state is spending $22 million dollars to build a fishing pier on the Outer Banks?  Lets see-Build a school or build a pier? Bev Perdue says I know, let's raise taxes and do both!  Tough call Bev.

Let's demand better from our elected representatives.  Let's all show up next Monday at South Central High School and tell Bev Perdue to live up to her campaign promise to "Make the tough choices".

June 19...Casey...TAXES AND SPENDING...9:59 am

Some good comments about ways to save money and cut expenses.  Not to insult anyone.  I am sure
these ideas are not new.  However, the problem is with the power brokers in Raleigh and Washington.
They are controlled by lobbyists and unions!  They get elected and forget about who they serve.  Our
budget problems are simple.  They spend everything they can get their hands on and more.  They believe
government can do a better job of spending our money.  I have written our representatives and senators
in Raleigh.  They don't respond.  We need more media  sources like this station talking about this issue.

June 18...Howard...SCHOOLS AND TAXES...6:59 pm

After trying to call in this morning I found this easer, First of all my turnip is dry!!! Why should the good people of N.C. stand for any more taxes! Now the Govenor is wanting to double the taxes in the new budget!! I say BS...What she needs to do is find real ways to save!!!

We in Pitt Co. could save 20% of school funds just by having a 4 day school week. Add 1.5hrs to each day to make up the classroom time and run the buses 4 days...feed the students 4 days...cool and heat 4 days...and so on....No less hrs. of study for the kids or work for the teachers. It's a start and who knows the kids and parents may have more family time together. Or better yet maybe the kids will find time to study!!!

June 18...Larry...WAL MART...2:06 pm

It ashame that the taxpayers of Greenville are going to lose a sixty to seventy-five million dollars project and one million in tax revenues every year after to the county. I just want to thank Kittrell, Spell, Mercer and Council for screwing the city over, and a special thanks to Ms. Marion Blackburn (who not even on the city council yet) and has already cost the city millions. Just think what we all can expect from her if she does get on the city council.

Wal-Mart                         1
Greenville taxpayers    0

June 18...Terry...WAL MART?...9:42 am

Does anybody have an update on the hwy 33 wal mart?
I heard it moved out of Greenville on 33 past Food lion?
If so, Bye, Bye millions in tax revenue for Greenville.

June 18...Stephen...STATE BUDGET COMMENT...11:09 pm

After listening to a reply of the Thursday show and hearing Jennifer Little ask you about where you would make cuts, it occurred to me that in looking at education in NC, specifically higher education, that we have 16 state universities.  Now don't get me wrong I am very proud of the university system in NC, but do we really need to support 16 universities.  I can only imagine the amount of educational programming that is redundant across the state.

When you look at zero-based budgets and achieving efficiencies, 16 universities does seem a bit much.
Of course the problem is, like everyone else would say, I don't want my university (ECU) to be affected.

Just a thought.

June 16...Tom...TODAY'S DISCUSSION ABOUT BRETT FARVE...8:54 am

Sonny Jurgenson from Wilmington played for the Wash Redskins until he was 41.

June 15...Margie...NEAL BOORTZ...11:57 am

I had lost interest in listening to Neal Boortz a while back, but today I think I have heard the last. I'm not sure what his religious beliefs are, but he was totally offensive today. A young man of 17 had called in, and was honest enough to tell Neal that he believed the earth was only several thousands years old and he didn't believe in evolution. Neal told him that when he's able to vote, he should show up on Wednesday (as do others who believe in creationism); people who believe in evolution show up on Tuesday. I thought he was possibly being 'tongue-in-cheek', but after he hung up on the young man, he made comments about wanting liquor and smoking weed - as if there was something wrong w/any of us who might have similar beliefs; as if any such people are not as intelligent as those who embrace evolution!

Most days anymore, Neal just rants and raves, with no scheduled agenda or points to make. He is rarely polite to any of his callers. That's not good talk radio to me; that's not entertainment either. Henry, surely you can find other programming for the 11am to 1pm time slot! I've been going online to listen to Laura Ingraham's last hour & other real conservative talk radio.

June 12...Susan...LET'S GET ALONG RON?...5 pm

Ron,
The major difference between the two media sources is simple.  Talk of the Town presents
a conservative message and The Daily Reflector is clearly liberal.  As a result many newspapers are slowly
dying.  TOT takes more time or gives more opportunity to present both sides.   The Reflector's
recent editorial on the city council was partially accurate.  The Mayor Dunn has provided zero leadership.
On the budget issue she has buckled under the city staff.  She doesn't have control of the council.
Her greatest accomplishment is keeping comments from the citizens to three minutes.  The Reflector did
not present a factual position on the budget process surrounding the city's golf course.  They "spun it"
to stir emotional debate in the public.  In other words it was all in an effort to sell newspapers!

June 14...Nanette...BRADFORD CREEK, REFLECTOR AND RON...11:48 am

Last week, during the discussion about Bradford Creek I was surprised to learn there is an interest by some Greenville Residents, for the city to "Bail out" Bradford Creek.  When did "Bailing Out businesses become a knee jerk reaction to failure?  What has happened to this country that no one is allowed to fail?  Just like GM, Chrysler, AGI, and Citibank, Bradford Creek should close if it is not profitable.  The City of Greenville is in no position to bail-out an entity that is doomed to failure as was GM and the others at the time of their bail-outs.

This is especially true if the money the City already intends to accept is going to go to this situation.  Let people fail--Including Obama ( I am with Rush Limbaugh).  Failures just may save and preserve our economy and take us on the ruted path we are on to Socialism and Anarchy (Glenn Beck is right, too.)

As to Ron of Greenville and his defense of the "Daily Reflector".  It makes sense that he would stand up for the "Reflector", the newspaper's editors have the same  "Spell check" problem Ron, does.

Reflector-Reflecter
Competitive-Compititive
Despise-Dispise

June 11...Ron...HENRY'S DISPISE OF THE NEWSPAPER...9:48 am

Listening to Henry Hinton bash the Daily Reflecter day after day it is pretty obvious that this is a comptitive stance.  It seems like insinuates daily that our local newspaper gets it wrong.  What is that all about?  Can't the local newspaper and the local radio station just get along?

June 10...Casey...CITY GOLF COURSE...5:01 pm

I appreciate the Daily Reflector questioning the lack of leadership by our Mayor
and Council on the city budget.  This is another example of lack of leadership in
Greenville.  Remember the Walmart, Unks and Housing Authority issues.  The
Council rescheduling a meeting because of it was on Valentine's Day. Now, they
side are stepping tough budget decisions.

They can't make tough decisions because
of the lack of LEADERSHIP!  Why all the fuss about the golf course?  The Aquatic's
Center loses money.  The last council tried to address that issue and the taxpayers
were ready to tar and feather some of the members.  How about the transit system?
It is not self supporting.  Over 1/3 of the budget is for unfunded mandates.  Why aren't
we upset at the state and federal government for that burden?  We need to vote out
the Mayor Dunn and others.  No Leadership!

June 10...Steve Hawley (city spokesman)...GOLF COURSE DISCOURSE...4:08 pm

To be clear, the roughly $43,000 the City pays each year to operate Bradford Creek Golf Course is the difference between operating costs and the user fees (greens fees, clubhouse rentals, equipment purchases, lessons, etc.).  It’s not fair to say it costs the City $935,000 PLUS roughly $43,000 annual average to operate as if it’s all tax money – that’s the $43,000.   ALSO, don’t overlook that the operating budget also pays off the debt to purchase the course.

Folks who claim it only costs $15 or $25 to play Brooke Valley are just wrong or worse.  Unless you’re in a tournament or a member is offsetting your cost, it will cost $45 for a non-member to play there, Ironwood is $55, and you can’t play Greenville Country Club without being a member or being with a member.  And Ayden…why should we have to send people out of town just to play golf?  Doesn’t say much about our quality of life opportunities here if we do.  Bradford Creek provides a lower cost yet decent quality golf experience for those of us who like the sport, but cannot afford to play at the local clubs.

June 10...Terrry....CITY BUDGET...132 pm

As Henry said ,the Daily Refelctor editorial was right on with the $48,000,000 liability and the golf course- they neglected to mention the million dollar financial sinkhole that is the aquatic center.

I think however the DR took a cheap shot at the general public in not going to the meeting. People don’t go because of  the arbitrary rules created by the Council and City management in addressing that body on this and other issues.

Not only is 3 minutes inadequate to discuss the budget for those who care, if you have ever been in front of that body -and I have- you are given to feel as if you are subservient to their almighty powers and are treated with very little, if any, respect. The mayor’s famous phrase is “your 3 minutes are up”   and the all-knowing look on the Council’s faces that the average citizen knows nothing. They are above it all.

Furthermore, the DR editorial, as with the citizens’ 3 minute genuflection, is and/or would be a fruitless waste of time because the budget is already “sealed” and the Council members, with prodding by city management, will tell you that.

June 9...Sherry...LOVED THE SHOW THIS MORNING, BUT...8:36 am

I loved the part of the show I heard on my way to work this morning! I didn’t love the subject matter—as someone who is fixed term at ECU, I know that there are many salaries that are way out of proportion to the duties required of that position.
The problem with the university system is the problem with big government: instead of looking to see where we have needless spending, the solution is always to raise taxes.

While the university doesn’t raise taxes, of course, they don’t seem willing to look and see where the wasteful spending is and eliminate that. Here we are, all taking a .5% pay cut while we have administrators getting paid to resign or to step down. When Mary Easley was hired, many of us thought her salary at that point was quite high. Is there anyone who didn’t think politics played a part there?

May 21...Louis...CIVITAS POLL RESULTS...7:56 am

I listened to the show when you were going over the Civitas poll results and something did not sit right with me.  So I looked up the poll and found that the institute was inconsistent in the way they presented the results.   I can't remember whether or not you mentioned it, but if you will review the results, you will find that some of the percentages add up to 100 and some don't.  There is nothing wrong with this per se; it just means that one or more categories have been subdivided, e.g., Liberal and conservative on question one were both subdivided into "somewhat" and "very".  But, as I am sure you can see, it would be very easy to misinterpret the numbers.  Below is the text of an email I sent to them pointing this out.

"I have been going over the April survey and notice an inconsistency in the way you present the results.  For example, compare questions 5 and 6.  In question 5, you sum up the "very favorable" and "somewhat favorable" percentages to yield a "favorable" percentage of 59.7 for Obama.  In the very next question, you do not sum up the percentages.  This inconsistency can be misleading to readers who are not familiar with polls and who do not take the time to see whether the percentages within a particular question add up to 100% or not.

I am not saying that this was done to mislead nor do I assign a particular motive to it.  It is just bad survey practice.  This would have earned my students at least a D if not an F in a statistics reporting assignment."

May 15...Corey....GREG PAULUS...8:35 am

I think one of the reasons that Syracuse looked at Greg Paulus is because he is a native to the area having attended High School at Jamesville Dewitt a suburb of Syracuse.  Better there then Duke!!!.  Also its my Birthday today.  I turned 9 years old.

May 1...Blackbeard...WAL-MART...8:58 am

Maybe if everyone read this

they would have welcomed Wal Mart

April 30...Terry...TO STEVE...4:43 pm

What if Lowes had opened down the street from your friend- you want to blame Lowes also.
No , my friend , anecdotal examples prove nothing or if your premise is true  then lets close Lowes, Food Lion,
Costco, Sams, Sears, Best Buy  and the list goes on and on and on.
Enough said , when you get into a position of power than I guess you will be able to do whatever you want
And capitalism as we know it will be replaced with the whims of a dictatorship who will tell us where to shop and what to buy
Look forward to seeing you try to do that to the millions that frequent these mega stores for the best price .
PS lets outlaw sales on the internet while you have the economic crown

April 29...Walt...STATE PAY CUT...8:48 am

Please tell these state employees to stop crying! Most of the private sector has either laid off or cut pay to deal with this economy. The company that I work for  has laid off workers, cut benifets, cut hours, and cut pay 15% across the board . Its funny that a lot of these professors don't mind when the government hurts businesses (and their employees) with it's liberal policies, but are outraged if they are effected in the slightest.

April 28...Steve...TO TERRY ON WAL-MART...6:52 am

Thank you for your insight.  Trust me when I tell you that I do not base any "conclusions" based on one or two studies, and while I may be still in graduate school this is my second business degree ( Masters of Science in Accounting 2004) and I have worked in retail management for 12 years.  I do understand that Wal-mart brings "low prices" to consumers, but at what cost?  While Greenville may not be as affected, talk to other business owners in more rural communities who have had to shut there doors because they can't compete.  I spoke to a local business owner in Louisiana (a friend of my uncle) who owned a hardware store on main street, a  "mom and pop" business if you will.  Two months after Wal-mart broke ground 5 miles up the road, this man had to shut his doors because they were selling many of the same products he had 30% cheaper, and in some cases below cost.  When you live in a town that rural, people cannot afford NOT to take advantage of those savings.  I stand behind my orignal statment that Wal-mart doesn't create hundreds of new jobs, they merely transfer workers.

April 24...Susan...UNK'S/TAXES/CARD CHECK...1:31 pm

Once read this you will definitely say that I am upset.  First,
"No Leadership" Mayor Dunn, snickered as she made comments
that the Unk's issue was an example of democracy at work and
often it moves slowly.  Mayor Dunn it moved slowly because it was
absent of LEADERSHIP.  It was disappointing that you allowed it
to drag on for so long.  The city, the University Neighborhood and
Unk's deserved better.  It was another example of Government Gone
Wild!

Now our state leaders want to revamp our tax system.  Good idea.
However, they have it wrong.  They say they are reducing taxes when
they are increasing them.  Smoke and mirrors.  They want to tax services.
However, it will mean more revenue for them to spend.  Businesses will
have to bear the additional cost in tracking the taxes so they report and
pay.  Services will cost more and we will have less to spend.  Government
will get larger because the Dept. of Revenue will probably need more employees.
The bottom line Raleigh needs to understand CUT SPENDING and quit
spending every dollar.  It's Government Gone Wild!

On Card Check. Mr. Cavellini and Funkhouser are CLUELESS!  They
spout recklessly because they are uninformed.  Neither have offered
anything positive.  They are always quick to speak first and using emotional
comments to promote division.  They fuel the Government Gone Wild Leaders
who lack LEADERSHIP!

March 25...JK...THE ADVERTISER BOYCOTT...11:45 am

This is in response to the guy that wrote the letter about his personal boycott of the advertisers who supported talkfest. I totally agree with Henry...the guy is a drip...blah blah blah, I don't like Laura Ingraham, so I am not going to buy from the advertisers.

but...It did remind me of Henry's argument of why he wouldn't shop at Walmart. Sure, these are two completely different and unrelated arguments...but in the end I see 2 guys using a public medium to argue their personal beliefs, and perhaps influencing others not to support a business for reasons that really have nothing to do with the businesses.

March 25...Tom...LETTER TO THE EDITOR...8:25 am

Mr. Packard mentioned the "he couldn't get a radio program with the Democratic point of view".  You missed the opportunity to ask him why?  Why did Air America fail?  Americans do not want to listen to the Democratic rhetoric.

Our anointed President has used charm, smoke and mirrors, the teleprompter and the lack of a PLAN to get into a position in which he totally lacks the qualifications for.  He use the word "investment" in place of "spending" to describe what his budget plan.  With all of the times I heard "investment", I am still wondering where all of the funds will come from, since I am in the group of 95% who will not see a tax increase.  I keep remembering that the last person to tell me something like this had a "bridge to sell".

People like Mr. Packard have bought in to the President's idea that the "clouds will open up, the sun will shine bright, and money will fall down like manna from heaven".  And if you have another opinion, he will boycott you.

March 25...Neil...INDEPENDANT?...8:08 am

Regarding the guy who wrote the letter to the editor in today's Reflector:

Did that guy say he was an independant at the beginning of the call and then say he listens to funkhouser's views?

Funkhouser is the same in the opposite direction as Ingram to independants.  I cant stand either of them as both lack substance and intelligent arguments.

As a true independant, there is no way he is not a die hard left winger.

March 23...Tom...THE ROAD TO RUIN...8:02 am

With regard to Henry's comments today about Obama's 60 Minutes appearance:

The current administration is leading this country into ruin with their "ready, FIRE, aim" attitude on policy.  Nothing that is being tried has a well thought out plan.  I guess that is because the administration is mostly made up of characters that have never "ran anything " in their life.  They don't know what it is to have to "make a profit" or "make a payroll".

Three key items need to be addressed with strong, sensible plans.  They are banking, housing and jobs.  Why he is wanting to pile on health care, card check and education can only be because of debts owed to his liberal supporters.

If you noted, the new bank bailout of toxic assets comes with a bureaucracy to run it.  Government keeps getting bigger, the debt keeps getting bigger and taxes keep getting bigger.  What are we going to do when the bill for all of this comes due?  History answers the question with the word WAR.  Can Obama charm his way out of this?

March 21...Jim...PHELPS COMMERCIAL...3:04 pm

Hank-  I don't understand your listener's comment about the Phelps Chevrolet commercial.  To use a child in a long time family owned Greenville business is adorable.  I wish you would play it more often.

March 20...JK...ABOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL KID...11:16 am

I was very sad to see the young man from South Central and his mother on your show. Those two just give off the immediate impression that they are just good people. I hope that the community will remember that this woman spends every day helping our children...and the boy, for Christ sake, he hikes the ball. You have to look after your center!

You may want to mention on the show Monday that in each branch of the SECU has a nice little change counting machine. Everyone has a change jar. You can bring in that big nasty jar of nickels and in 30 seconds that machine will gobble up the change and spit out a receipt. Take it up to the teller and tell them to put it in that boys account. If you are lazy like me there will be a good bit of money in the jar and if you are tight like me, well its an easy way to give a little cash:)

I hope the best for the young man.

March 19...Ed...PHELPS CHEVROLET COMMERCIAL...2:12 pm

My God Hank, Kallie Ann might have been 4 when you started running the spot-"Phelps Chevrolet is the one for you...., she's has got to be near retirement age you guy's have running it so long. Can't you sell Phelps on maybe updating? I know I'm not the only one absolutely SICK!!!!!!!! of hearing it. I have personally taken up a fund to help Phelps cut a new spot, only if it's Kallie Ann-LESS. Thanks.

March 13...Perry....WAL MART'S REVENGE...6:09 pm

Bringing Wally Mart to 10th Street does make sense but why does the developer think he needs to dominate the whole area to make it work?  Watching the lady on TV today who owns the land one has to wonder what her motivation is if its not money?  Frankly I do not need the person who is going to make big bucks on the deal telling me whats best for my city, do you?

I live off Hiway 33 and would love to see more stuff on this side of town.  Lowes did not have to have a mega shopping center with all these other businesses around it so why does Wally Market?  Plain and simple it is about money.  The lady wants to make a huge hit off the land she says her family has loved for centuries.  I guess she was born in the right generation.

I say bring Wally on but leave off all the crap around it.  Who needs another Wendy's/Exxon combination next to a Shoes R Us?  I just want a place to buy my underwear and jelly beans without having to fight Greenville boulevard.  I hope the city allows it.  There has to be a compromise that will work.  Hopefully they can negotiate something without the greedheads and the treehuggers in the same room.

March 13...Terry...TO LARRY FROM TERRY....4:26 pm

This is a big fear of some on that side of town who think highway 33 has too much residential Now!!
The city planning department doesn’t understand that there must be shopping for the thousands of
people who now live up and down this road. There are rooms for nearly 1300 people now at Copper Beach
Greenville blvd cannot take much more traffic to handle this shopping crowd
But trust me , if commercial is not put at Port Terminal, another Copper Beach will be constructed there and people
From River Hills will ask “What happened”???   Well what do you expect????
You asked for it, you got it…..

March 14...TO PERRY AND HENRY FROM TERRY...3:28 pm

The rule in real estate is that a developer makes money not from the anchor but the outlying small shops
Therefore, you have to take the small shops if you want the big one.
I, however, have a problem with Perry and with Henry’s somewhat snide question  during the interview that the lady is in it for the money. Well, I guess , unless Henry can certify to me that his motivation in owning a radio station is not money, it may be and what is wrong with that? I think the question by Henry and the comment by Perry questioning the woman’s motives as money are both juvenile and naïve. Do not go there . Her motive is hers, whatever it is. The opponents may have the same monetary  reasons- the value of their houses! Do you question their motives for opposition? Hmmm.
The question should be “Is it a good thing for this side of town or not? Period.”
I say it beats another 1250 bedroom Copper Beach…

March 15...Larry...TO PERRY FROM LARRY...1:01 am

Terry , I'm on your side! I don't financially benefit from this project, but I do realize that another Copper Beech is something we do not need on hwy 33. To Perry, a Walmart is not all they we need on this side of town, we need the restaurants that a decent shopping center brings. Knowing that 60% of Greenville business travels east to west, why not give the east side the conveniences  that the rest of Greenville already has. On the subject of property values, when have you ever seen a real estate ad stating "not convenient to shopping"?

March 18...Tom...TAX ON CIGARETTES... 7:59 am

The question is "What will get taxed as a replacement when tobacco sales drop and fail to support the orginal plan?"  The Federal Tax is to support the SCHIP program and the State Tax is for general fund.

I quit smoking in 1983 when I said I would not pay $0.75 per pack.  I'm sure many will now quit.  Think how $16.20 per carton in new tax impacts the overall cost.  Current price is $31.90 + $16.20 new tax + $3.37 sales tax = $51.47 cost per carton.

March 18...Jeffrery...TOBACCO TAX...8:15 am

I missed the opportunity to call the show this morning when Henry asked for comments on a proposed state tax increase of $1.00 per pack.  Please note that the key word is proposed.  Research shows that the proposal has virtually no chance of passing.  So all you dopers, relax.  You will have ample oportunity to still exert undue pressure on the health system.

March 12...Larry...QUESTION FOR WALMART OPPONENTS..1:24 pm

When you talk to Marion Blackburn next week , ask her if she would be happier if that land is developed as another Copper Beech with only a 10' buffer instead of 150' that WRS is offering?

March 12...TO STEVE FROM TERRY....10:19 am

Steve , when you get out of school , you will find that there are studies that show that most studies
are mostly false. Two recommendations for your next research project.

Ask businessmen, like myself, who competes with Wal-Mart daily, if it hurt my business and you will find that
an honest, good businessman will say No- We know how to co-exist and thrive together. Wal- Mart is not a problem in my 15 years in business in town.

Second, drive yourself on the Highway 33 side of town and tell me how many businessman are selling their wares to the people on that side of town. Here, let me help your research. Before Lowes –NOBODY. Does that tell you something for your research?

Finally, you will learn that what you learn in graduate school is that you do not jump to any conclusions because a study was done.

March 12...Steve...MORE ON WAL-MART...8:31 am

I have done graduate research on Wal-mart, and have found their claim to bring new jobs to the community to be mostly false.  What they actually do is "transfer jobs".  For example, when a new Wal-mart comes to town, it forces other businesses (especially locally owned businesses) to reduce labor costs in order to compete.  These displaced workers are then hired on at Wal-mart, and Wal-mart claims they have added "new jobs" to the community.  In their defense, Wal-mart does add some new jobs when they locate to a new area, but the vast majority are transplanted workers.

March 11...Terry...WAL MART...9:45 am

I congratulate you on taking the responsibility of having both sides speak on your talk of the town
On the Wal Mart issue
You are the “Voice of Greenville”
A few points and questions
Is Wal mart a Chamber member ?
And what is the Chamber’s opinion on this issue- I hope they have one.

You comment this morning on this election year issue is very critical.
There is a “Perfect Storm” developing in Greenville and the Council is going to right in the middle of it.
The Wal Mart issue, the never ending story of UNKS, and the massive budget  problems
that the City is going to see in the next few years.
While the Council people cannot or will not see it , there is a storm brewing with sales taxes down, unemployment
going up and house values on the decline(    average reduction in United States is 18.9 %). Home values affect tax values
We are at 100%- remember- and you can see the real estate tax shortfall coming.

Maybe you should have Bowers on your show to explain how he will manage his way out of this financial mess

It will be an interesting Fall in Greenville politics.

March 8...Casey...PERDUE ROBS THE LOTTERY FUND...12:19 pm

Roger your analysis is a joke!  Robbing the lottery fund to save a few jobs is the most
ridiculous comment to date.  I use the term robbery because of all people that is the
comparison Senator Rand used Saturday.  What Perdue is doing is morally wrong.
It goes against public trust.  She says she has a "constitutional responsibilty" to balance
the budget.  How about keeping your word governor!

Roger maybe if some state employees
were laid off, the employees and their union would realize that years of spending everything
that state government could get their greedy hands on and more contributed to this mess.
Why didn't they plan for this time?  I do with my family and our business.  We live within our
means.  Robbing Peter to pay Paul is not the answer.  Have you looked at the almost
$1 Billion given to nonprofits.  They aren't even audited or have to submit an audited statement.
They robbed the Highway Trust Fund.

Roger I hope you don't lose you government job.
I don't wish that on anybody.  However the bottom line it is wrong to lie Governor Perude!

March 3...Roger...RAID ON THE LOTTERY FUND...6:04 pm

I just watched the replay of today's Talk of the Town and want to comment on the tirade thrown by Henry on the lottery.  I totally agree that Governor Purdue should not raid the lottery fund as Henry suggests.  However, what is she to do?  Cut jobs of government employees.  How many ECU faculty will lose their jobs if this is the case?  The money to manage the budget shortfall must come from somewhere.  Its easy to sit on the sidelines and complain but with the recession we're in this might be the best plan.  At least no one loses a job this way.

March 1...Barbara..TALKFEST WAS AMAZING...2:49 pm

I just want to say thanks to WTIB for an unbelievable experience.  Talkfest was the most fun.  I loved watching Laura do her show live.  And she seemed to enjoy Greenville.   She is an amazing and intelligent woman.  Thank God for her.  Clark Howard was truly one of the nicest people I have ever met.  I had three questions I had been dying to ask him and I got to ask all three.  What an opportunity.  Thank you to you and your sponsors for bringing this event to Greenville.

Mar 3...Sean...TALKFEST...9:34 am

Kudos to the crew who put on TalkFest!  All did a great job!  I got photos taken with both Clark Howard and Laura Ingraham.    Clark Howard was incredibly friendly.  Henry told the crowd that was lined up for photos that Clark Howard only had a few minutes left and asked us to speed it along and try not to take up too much time so others could talk and get a photo.  I tried to respect this when it was my turn.  But the 3 times I tried to move along, Clark started talking to me again.   That was so cool!

My photo with Laura did not go so well.   Her bodyguard is in the picture between us, looking at me with a sinister stair.   He kind of made me nervous.  I asked Laura to address my book to my 13 yr old daughter of  whom I need all the help I can get with countering the liberal media's immoral messages she is bombarded with constantly.   At least that is what I tried to say.  Laura replied "that's nice" and smiled.   She obviously did not understand what I said!      I still think she is great.   Hopefully  I can Photoshop her goon out of the photo.

Feb 28...Jordan...TALKFEST AND MORE!!!...11:03 am

Congratulations on TalkFest being a HUGE success!  It was fun to share
the day with others who understand that we can't spend our way into
prosperity.  Hope and change is not our federal government.  Can't wait for TalkFest II!

Feb 28...Casey...TALKFEST...10:57 am

It was tremendous!  Henry what an awesome atmosphere.  Clark and Laura
where great guests.  They ROCK!  They understand what taxpayers/working
people are going through.  Again great job!  Let's do int again.

PS.  Laure is HOT!  She is even better looking in person.  She is on my list.
Look out Anniston or whatever your name is!

Feb 27...Beth...CONGRATULATIONS ON TALKFEST...4:20 pm

I just got home after a day in Greenville and several hours at Talkfest.  What an incredbile event for this part of the state.  I don't remember ever attending anything quite like it.  I couldn't believe I got to actually spend time talking to Clark Howard and get my picture taken with Clark and Laura Ingram.  Watching Laua do her show was exciting.  Thank you so much for bringing this to Greenville.  Will this be an annual event?  I hope so.

Feb 27...Eddie...CLARK HOWARD...2:56 pm

I took a day off to come to Talkfest. I wanted to find out how Clark Howard could give answers so fast....there must be a earpiece with groups of scholars feeding him info. But is was clear as I listened to him speak he is just a very smart guy. We need him leading our country. WTIB did a great job with Talkfest!!!!

Feb 24...Stephen...NEW STATION TAG LINE...10:37 am

How about WTIB "The Source". After many years of listening to the station that is how I view it, as the source
for what is going on locally.

Feb 24...Devin...WTIB'S NEW NAME?...10:58 am

WTIB the “TRUTH”    We Tell It Baby !!!

Feb 24...Quentin...HENRY'S PEPSI...8:58 am

Hey Henry,
Hate to bust your bubble, but Pepsi changed their logo to look like the Obama symbol right around innauguration. I emailed and asked them about it and they denied and refused to answer my questions. Check it out.
Go Coke!

Feb 24...Paul...LIVE STREAM... 8:17 am

This is not really a comment…but for the last two days I have not been able to listen to your live stream.  When I click on the link, it takes me to bonesville.  I then click on the link for the live stream and a new page comes up (after the advertisement page) that has a talk 1070AM logo.  The windows media player plugin comes up, but nothing plays.

I have been listening to the live stream on this (and other machines) for weeks.  I have tried today on multiple computers (and with multiple browsers), but to no avail.

What should I do?

Feb 25...William...HENRY'S BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER?..9:50 am

I listen to you when time permits at work and honestly, I think we were separated at birth. We have almost the same opinions on things political and in life in general. The only difference between us being, you’re a millionaire and I’m going the other way, especially now that Obama and the dems are driving the ship.

All of that to say this,” How do you sit and converse with Susan Sartell?” She acts like she is such a restrained liberal when she is on your program, almost biting her lip a lot of the times. I’m pretty sure you bite yours a lot also. This morning I could tell from the long periods of silence that went on when ya’ll were talking about the “spendulous” package. You have the same problem I have, if you talk to me more than 5 minutes you know where I stand on a lot of things.

I know where you stand from listening to you. I remember the first time Lynette Taylor was on, ya’ll kinda got into it about Obama getting elected or coming to Greenville or something, but I could tell it could have gotten a lot worse if you would have pushed it. I love your program , I just wish I could listen more than I do. Keep up the good work, we need all the sane voices we can listen to.

Feb 25...Clyde...TAGLINE FOR THE STATION...8:45 am

I think you should use the "pulse"
With the opening of the new heart center, the major importance that the hospital and the whole medical community plays in Greenville, and that we are the center of medical care in eastern North Carolina, it fits very well.
You also keep your hand on the heartbeat of eastern NC very well.
And on those mornings that you are not quite up to speed, hadn't had the third or fourth cup of coffee yet - that would be a bradycardiac morning and when you get excited about an issue, you would be having a tachycardia event!

Feb 17...Charles...STIMULUS WATCH...7:22 pm

Looks like Greenville and Eastern NC were not represented very well in the porkulus stimulation.  Click the link below.

Feb 17...BRISTOL PALIN IS 18!!!...8:55 am

Henry,
Bristol Palin is 18!  Not 16 as you repeatedly said this morning on air.  18!!
Thank you.

Feb 17...Terry...SUSAN IS RIGHT BUT COUNCIL SHARES RESPONSIBILITY...11:05 am

The Unks thing is a travesty

The wal mart decision was a political circus with little regard for jobs- Mercer’s quote was
Jobs are not as important as the “plan”- $60,000,000 Greenville investment shot to heck

This is what you get when the council members and mayor are subservient to the city bureaucrats
And their own agendas- we need some leaders with some “guts” and foresight
Clearly, Mercer and Spell have got to go- but I think the “good ole boy” Greenville
network may be behind them

oh well

Feb 15...Susan...GREENVILLE VOID OF LEADERSHIP...4:23 pm

For the past year Greenville has been void of leadership.  We have watched
while Mayor Dunn has repeatedly failed to provide leadership to guide the
city council.  Consistently she has displayed the inability to build consensus,
control council meetings and provide a clear concise vision for Greenville.  It
appears she is serving as mayor only to satisfy her own goal.  That goal being
to tell others that she served as mayor.

I have attended various functions and
she does not take time to interact with those attending.  I remember the past
mayor, Don Parrott, regularly appeared on your program.  I have never seen or heard
Pat Dunn come on this station.  I know other council members have been on your
show.  Why not Pat Dunn?

It is evident that she doesn't have the ability to
lead and as a result hides that deficiency by attending events or interviews that
are controlled.  On issues like Walmart aand Unk's she has been MIA.  Missing In
Action.  She allowed council discussion and public comment to go uncontrolled.
Last week discussion of the legislative goals went on and on.  Allowing the discussions
to go on wrecklessly.  I say wrecklessly because it has not served Greenville well and
often has the appearance and sound like a train wreck in the works.
It has been embarrassing.  Hopefully someone will step forward this year and offer
the citizens of Greenville LEADERSHIP.  We deserve better!

Feb 9...Nanette...ELKHARDT, INDIANA...8:11 am

I used to live in Elkhart. The RV Industry is the " Life Blood" of Elkhart.  Everything hinges on the RV Industry, from parts to actual vehicles, Elkhart runs on the RV Industry. Even the Amish who live in the  area depend on the RV Industry for some of the cabinetry and wood-work that applies to the work that is done on some smaller RV companies.

I don't understand how Obama's visit is going to improve conditions. The people work at these plants have worked for many, many, years at the same place.  They are not likely to be open to cross train in a new field, and there are not the places in either, South Bend, Middlebury, or Goshen where these people can work.

The Michigan line is 3 miles from Elkhart, and Debbie Stabinow certainly didn't leave Michigan in any condition for new job prospects either.  (Jeff Daniels Michigan Promo or not)

Feb 5...Chris...ECONOMIC STIMULUS PLAN...5:15 pm

For the record, I have called the offices this afternoon of Walter Jones, Richard Burr and Kay Hagen.  This bill is out of control with money that has nothing to do with creating jobs.  Pork Barrel spending and Obama said numerous times he was not going to allow that!!!!!!!

All 3 offices recorded my displeasure.  Walter's office said it had been voted on in the house and Walter could not do anything with the senate.  I said fine but I wanted my displeasure for the record.  The house can still have input in conference committee.  The young guy did not seem to understand that concept!!!!  Richard is against it.  I got a political answer from Kay's guy.  She supports jobs, etc for NC.  He would not comment when I kept talking about all the money proposed for non jobs.  Pork!!!!!!

Michael Savage was on a roll last night.  He is already calling for impeachment.

Jan 28...Terry...TO CASEY...7:36 am

Amen
You got it, casey
Spell is a mayor in waiting- he hopes
Powered by the TRUNA crowd

By the way, have you gone through that area lately
It is disgusting how there is trash and garbage in peoples’ yards
I bet TRUNA wants to blame that on UNKs also
When it’s just sloppiness by the residents
I suggest TRUNA spend as much time cleaning up their own neighborhood as they do
In harassing  UNKS, who , by the way, has some of the cleanest real estate
In the area…

Jan 27...Mary...ECONOMY WOES VS. THE MEDIA...8:53 am

I caught part of your show (Talk of the Town) this am.

We all know that the media is probably 80% to blame for the election of the new messiah.  They had all kinds of negative news they could have reported but chose to bury it.  Now, the media is responsible for consumer fear concerning the economy.  We all need to see the big picture.  That picture is yes, an economy that could be better but it is also a continued effort by all media to make us so fearful that ANY package put in front of us from the current administration  will be accepted without thought only THANKFULLNESS that our government has come to SAVE us….like sheep to the slaughter.

Thanks for all you do on your show.

Jan 25...Casey...CITY COUNCIL PLANNING SESSION...9:49 am

I have parents that live in the university neighborhood.  We are all aware of the crime
problems in the area and Greenville.  It is very disappointing that council member Spell
and Mercer number one issue expressed in Saturday's planning session was sustaining
neighborhoods.  The number one issue for them should be making neighborhoods/citizens
safe!  Are they out of touch?  I think that if we make neighborhoods safe that would do
much more for our city and its citizens.  Both Spell and Mercer often talk about sustaining
neighborhoods but never offer solutions.  They just beat to death problems.  Addressing the
crime issue will go along way in sustaining neighborhoods.  Spell and Mercer often are more
talk than action.  They never champion anything by building consensus with other council
members.  They often seem to be jumping to conclusions or offering ideas without discussing
them with their colleagues.  It appears Spell is more interested in positioning to be mayor
someday.  Another career politician in the making.

Jan 21...Jeff...CONGRESSMAN JONES...9:04 am

I heard Henry say that Walter Jones is a great American this morning and I wanted to say Here Here!  I have not always agreed with the Congressman but I do agree that he is a great American for taking the time to fight for the border patrol agents.  We have a great representative in Congress with Walter.

Jan 15...Terry...LARRY SPELL INTERVIEW... 11:24 am

Henry- I found your comment that the City has a very financially effective City staff
quite enlightening.

I assume you base this on the fact that nobody in city government has faced the reality
noted by the state ($2B shortfall) , the massive financial problems at the federal level- bail-outs , the
stock market freefall, businesses failing and the unemployment rate at over 7% and going higher.

Either you are very astute that this City is massively blessed with  financial people of extraordinary talents- beyond
those organizations noted above- or  City management has their head in the sand and cannot see the
financial challenges ahead and making appropriate  plans  now…

Unlike you Henry, I tend to believe the latter. That Greenville city management officials are financially clueless or are trying to play games with the numbers. Then, out of nowhere,  it dawns on them- eureka-  that there is a  financial problem here also and Greenville is not an oasis in the midst of financial problems.

But hey, believe what you will. Dream on. Hmmm.

Jan 13...Tom...BAN ON SMOKING...4:09 pm

Thanks for having the information on Talk of the Town today about the smoking ban.  This is a violation of people's rights and just another example of government gone wild.  If people don't like cigarrette smoke they should go to restaurants that don't allow smoking.  I hope people will "ban" together and kill this in the legislator.

Jan 13...Michael...TOBACCO...7:56 am

Well guys … Its obvious that history matters until it comes down to self inflicted addictions.  This is the first I’ve heard of the ban on smoking and its ridiculous.  You are telling me that a state built on tobacco is considering banning its use.  As my grandmother says, all the farmers that jump started this economy “Just rolled over in their graves!”  Why don’t we ban furniture in the western part of the state, and ban eating corn in Nebraska while we are at it.  It’s a shame that we are so quick to forget where we came from.  However, I guess most transplanted people (ie: CEOs in Raleigh from New York) don’t know where we came from anyway.  Oh well I guess the color commentators will have to find another name for “Tobacco Road” as well.  Maybe “Research Row” would be a good substitute.

Jan. 9...Devin...CHRISTINA VITALE...10:01 am

What happened to Christina Vitale?

STATION RESPONSE:  Christina left WITN in November to move back to Florida and the area from which she came.  Turned out to be a true Gator at heart....but we miss her on Talk of the Town.  No doubt she's exuberant about another national championship.

Jan 9...Terry...BOW AND ARROW ORDINANCE....11:08 am

I understand that you are going to have Larry Spell, the Father of the City’s Bow and Arrow ordinance on your Talk of the Town.
Would somebody ask Larry how many people have been saved by his Bow and Arrow ordinance since enactment,
since  I believe there has not been a death, or even a serious injury ,from a Bow and Arrow in Greenville in the past 150 years.

Then ask him what he is doing about the 250+ home invasions in one month late last year in Greenville and what he is doing about it. Maybe we should arm ourselves with bows and arrows instead of the pocket knife one guy used.

Dec 29...Terry....PIG IN A POKE OR IS IT A DOG...8:10 am

Check out the reflector(1/29)  and see the “dog” the city bought for $300,000.  Only Greenville government can do something this stupid.  No plan, no money, no financial projections, no common sense.  Our version of the Randy Pardon Theater fiasco in Roanoake Rapids.  Why can’t the city just protect us with police and fire and garbage pickup and stop this stupidity?

Dec 11...Terry...PIG IN A POKE PURCHASE BY CITY...1:54 pm

There are enough red flags in the theater appraisal
to send a person to the funny farm- sales history is 2003 sale $70,000, 2005 sale- $110,000, 2006 sale- $190,000, 2008 sale- $275,000, 2008 sale (dump) to City $281,000 - A 400% increase in 5 years-  now that’s inflation!!! By the way the building did not change one bit…- The City bought a parking lot, not an historic building at a very ,very expensive price- before demolition costs which will be massive, asbestos and all…
as mentioned in this juicy  excerpt from the appraisal (quote):

"The most recent buyers stated they are not sure if the building is salvagableand based the price primarily on the value of the land.  The $275,000 purchase price calculates to $35.47 per square foot for the +/- 7,754 square feet of land in the site."

Dec 11...Steven...HENRY'S LEO JENKINS BLOG...1:09 pm

Henry, that is a great way to look at it…nothing on this campus can be viewed without giving a huge bit of credit to Dr. Jenkins…nothing.

Dec 10...Diane...UNK'S...9:35 am

The University Neighborhood has one objective.  Shut Unks down.  That was evident as they ducked one question after the other on your program.  That neighborhood has serious challenges.  The biggest is their lack of working together.  There are not any homes located next to Unks that are complaining.

This neighborhood has constantly been narrowminded in its approach to working to be neighborly.  I know my parents live there.  Unless they change their attitude the University Neighborhood will be the next west Greenville.  There
are over 50 homes for sale in that area and they are not selling.

Unless the neighborhood begins to be willing to be good neighbors it will continue to deteriorate.  Deteriorate to
the point it will cost millions to bring back.  It is the neighborhood that has resisted working with the ownership of Unks.  They want their way or no way.

Why has the mayor stepped in and tried to work toward compromise?  She campaigned on preserving neighbors.  Where
is she?  Why doesn't she provide leadership on the one issue that was the cornerstone of her campaign?  She has been a no show on this issue. This issue will soon be a year old and it is still has been resolved.

Dec 10...Terry...NEIGHBORHOODS- TO MARIE...6:55 am

You do not get it, Unks has a right to exist as per the state law.
They have done nothing to warrant the treatment they are getting from TRUNA
I am very disappointed in this whole process which is taking up valuable resources
both from Unks and the City.

Next  TRUNA will not like to have me in their neighborhood because I smoke
Cigarettes, have beer on my porch legally or wear strange cloths- you get the picture

I would be more amenable to your position if you had some hard evidence
That Unks patrons specifically are causing the purported problems, but there are other bars in the area
and beer bottles on the residences porches etc.- Unks is not the problem,  if there even is one.

Dec 8...Marie...NEIGHBORHOODS SHOULD COME FIRST...6:08 pm

Kudos to the Tar River Neighborhood Association for standing up against having a night club in their back yard.  Of course they are doing the right thing to challege the city's decision to let this bar have zoning in their neighborhood.  Here is the only question one should ask about this situation.  Would you want this next to your home?  Either the bar should change their ways to work with the neighbors or shut down.

Dec 8...Michael...THE GUYS ON TODAY ABOUT UNK'S...8:59 am

The two guys on this morning about Unk's clearly have the agenda to shut it down.  When Henry tried to get them to admit that they kept changing the subject.  Also they would not give specific examples of why this place is a neighborhood nuisance.

They also nevered answered the question of why they will not meet with the owner to negotiate.  It is clear that they want Unk's out of business and anything less is unacceptable.   If they are this adamant about the issue why won't they just come out and say what they want, Unk's out of business.

Dec 8...Terrry...CITY SHOULD STOP THEATRE PURCHASE NOW...8:40am

Has anybody done any work on determining if this building is fit for anything?  The upgrades are going to be massively expensive.  I can see  it now- handicap access, asbestos, sprinkler systems, etc.  All the other hundreds of problems with this building.

I say STOP the purchase until the building is properly and independently reviewed for
renovation.

Dec 5...Diane...COMMISSION GONE WILD...5:22 pm

Merry Christmas to the former owners of the old Park Theatre.  The Redevelopment Commission
pays you $280,000 on a building that is about to fall down!Who wins?

The owner and uptown business people like Don Edwards who has a lot to gain.  It
is estimated that it will cost millions of dollars to renovate.  Edwards says it will not cost
that much.  What does he know that he is not disclosing?  Where is the transparency
Mr. Edwards?

Then there's Terri Williams.  She plans on running for city council..again.
A realtor, developer and business person that evidently likes to spend without planning.
This city has millions of dollars in capital needs and now we have millions.  Where
are the priorities?

Maybe they think a lot of bake sales and yard sales will be successful.
Last time I looked businesses are closing, people are doing with less,  they don't want another
Walmart, construction and home sales are down.  Then people want more sidewalks,
less crime, better roads, less traffic, better jobs, education and more.  Show me the
money.  Where is the golden goose Terri Williams?

Dec 4...Terry..THEATRE PURCHASE-THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG...10:47 pm

To Charles

I  Agree 100 %.  We need an independent investigation of this purchase  It was just appraised last year for $97,000 for tax purposes( up from $85,000) by the City and now sells for $280,000

TO THE CITY

This smells real bad- there is something fishy going on here.  Do you think my $225,000 ( tax value) Home could sell for  $675,000 to the city ame percentage increase!

Right!!!

There is something terribly wrong with this deal and this commission.

Dec 3...Charles...THEATRE PURCHASE...4:58 pm

The decision of the Greenville Redevelopment Commission to purchase
the old Park Theater was a prime example of government out of control
with our tax dollars.  They spend $280,000 for a building that will cost millions.

There was no consideration for a plan to fund the renovations.  It was a
BAILOUT of investors who made a poor investment.  They knew the government
would rescue them from a bad decision.

Britt Laughinghouse is to be commended
for voting against the purchase.  He alone raised valid questions that should have
made other members of the commission question the purchase.  Thank you Britt
for casting what was the lone vote that reflected common sense.  He alone realized
that this was not good for the taxpayers.

Dec 3...Robert...THE BAILOUT...8:44 am

Regarding this morning's conversation on Talk of the Town on the bailout:

They need to increase the FDIC 3.5 M (Because I T WOULD BE BETTER TO BAIL OUT THE  individual  THAN THE FAT CATS AT THE BANK)
Let the banks pay 7% on a saving account and may be the banks would built capital in their business
Oh I forgot 750B from the GOV is Quicker AND THEY MOST LIKELY WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY THE MONEY BACK
Capitol needs to come from us not US GOV
This will bring the money back into the banks that’s why WAMU when under in less than a month it was a run on the bank.
It cost nothing to increase the FDIC to 3.5 Mill

Dec 2...Michael...BURRESS' GLOCK...8:19 am

Unfortunately for Burress a Glock’s safety is built into the trigger.  So if there was a bullet in the chamber and he pulled the trigger at the bottom of the trigger he disengaged the trigger safety.  This makes him even less intelligent.  You actually have to pull the trigger fairly significantly to disengage the safety.   GENIOUS!!    … Love the show by the way… Listen everyday

Nov 25...Karen...STOP THE PUSH TO SILENCE FREE SPEECH...9:39 am

I have just taken action to stop the attacks on our Free Speech
Rights, and I'm asking that you join with me by clicking here:

http://www.mrcaction.org/517/petition.asp?PID=19004732&NID=1

Will The Fairness Doctrine Silence The Conservative Voice?

Will 2009 usher in a fanatical push to re-instate the so-called
Fairness Doctrine? Such a move would effectively silence the
conservative voice and remove the last conservative stronghold
against a fast-moving liberal agenda.

One need only read the words of Dianne
Feinstein to see the true threat to conservative speech that is
brewing on the horizon!

"Talk radio tends to be one-sided. It also tends to
be dwelling in hyperbole. It's explosive. It pushes
people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of
information ... I'm looking at the [Fairness Doctrine]...
Unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way."

Recognizing this threat, the Media Research Center has created
the Free Speech Alliance which is a coalition of organizations
and citizens strongly opposed to any such move to limit or

Nov 20...Terry...RESPONSE TO HAYWOOD...12:06 pm

It isn’t wal mart that wants the cut thru , it’s the CITY of Greenville
Wal- Mart doesn’t really care if there is a cut thru or not

The City will get the cut thru- wal mart or not and if there is a housing complex
The cut thru will bring PEOPLE thru it- probably more than wal mart will
Why would wal mart customers want to go thru River Hills??

But the residents of a housing complex may wish to visit for various and sundry reasons

I would rather have the proposed plan as opposed to a housing complex

Nov 21...Charles...FROM YOUR MOST DEDICATED LISTENER...8:49 am

I always enjoy listening to your show on the ride in to work or just around town. However, I just wanted to mention that it is awesome how much the Holtz's do for ECU and all those young men playing football. I especially like the fact that Mrs. Holtz takes the time to learn and become friends with the players. Emotional support and friendship, sincere friendship, is very valuable for many young people that for the first time are away from home. Most of which don't get the kind of support that will carry them through the tough times. And knowing you have a support team like the Holtz's, can make all the difference in the world.

Henry, Thank you for all you do for Greenville and the surrounding communities. You are THE MAN!!!

Nov 20...Scott...LAURA INGRAHAM VISIT...11:03 pm

Great job Henry, I know you have been working on this for a long time!!! Great Job, now I need two tickets up front…

Nov 19...Greg...Wednesday's Talk of the Town....9:07 am

Thanks for bringing attention to the needs of American auto manufacturers.  The "trickle down" effect of bankruptcy or failure would be catastrophic to our obviously fragile economy.  The loss of jobs would be felt nationwide, and I would venture to say could cost thousands of eastern NC residents their jobs.  Good job for bringing local attention to this issue.

Nov...Karen...Laura Ingraham-Question...8:40 am

Ask Laura was THREE things the GOP can do to regain control in Congress.

Nov 19...Haywood...WALMART...8:39 am

What many people don't seem to understand is if Wal-Mart wants to come to Greenville they will make it happen. No matter where they build it, jobs will follow. Also, if they were considering building a Wal-Mart next to your neighborhood, maybe you wouldn't so gung ho for it. How would you like a cut through road passing directly in front of your house 24/7. Think about it.

Nov 19...Bennie...LAURA INGRAHAM...8:36 am

I couldn't find where to email you on your website, so here is a question for Laura:

Laura, believe or not, you have just been appointed President-elect Obama's chief of staff.  He has ask you to list the top five priorities of his administration in the first year.  The Iraq War debate cannot be one of the five.  What are the top 5?

Good booking Henry!

Nov 18...Tony...LAURA INGRAHAM COMING TO GREENVILLE?...4:42 pm

So looks like Laura is finally coming to Greenville according the huge announcment mentioned on the website.  Stop teasing us and tell us when?   Is this the big announcement she will make on Thursday?

Nov 17...Mary...ADVERTISEMENTS...2:04 pm

It would be nice if the local commercials would not run while the regular programing commercials run.  They talk over each other.

Nov 17...Tim...MONDAY'S TALK OF THE TOWN...2:46 pm

Henry, great interview this morning with the people from the North Carolina Watercolor Society. Can you send over to my house a few more bullets for my head....I ran out.

Nov 14...Mike...THE NATION IS CENTER-RIGHT...7:54 am

I enjoyed the O'Reilly vs Stewart comments and it prompts the question, If the nation is not center-right, then explain California's overwhelming passage of PROPOSITION 8, banning gay marriage.  We always hear California described as the "left coast" but obviously the majority of people there are more centered than even we give them credit for.

Keep up the good work.

Nov 12...Joe...WEEKEND PROGRAMMING...9:44 pm

Where can I find a listing of your weekend programming?

STATION RESPONSE:  Joe, WTIB carries Sporting News Radio on the weekends for the most part other than some of our specialty shows and a replay of The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly on Saturday afternoons.  You can find most of the weekend programs on this site at  http://wtibfm.com/pages/2293903.php

Nov 13...Robert...WAL MART...7:48 am

You got to be kidding me, you got the worst economic problem sense the great depression, and you turn down the wal-mart that backs up to River Hills and the garbage dump on Port Terminal Road

Nov 12...Terry...Wal Mart...5:24 pm

Marcie,
So you want substandard housing and swampland, maybe a cow or two
in that area zoned Residential and Agriculture
Great tax base and wonderful corridor improvement

“Beware of what you ask for, you may get it”

Or maybe“better the devil you know than the one you don’t”

Nov 12...Chuck...TO KAREN...12:48 pm

Karen, Although it would be a nice gesture to name the convention center after Mildred Council; I believe it would be unfair...after all we already named an important roadway after Mildred. After she made sure no one in town was displaced, she earned the Mildred Council Information Super Highway.

As far as Calvin, blah blah blah...exactly what we thought he would say. Take that out of town developers!! Yes, Chip Little IS looking pretty good...Heck I even miss that Craft guy! We all knew what Calvin the blow hard was going to say. I think an interview with Kittrell would be a lot more informative. I was very surprised by his vote. Does someone have some elicit pictures of him?? Seriously, I would love to hear Bryant comment on Wal Mart.

I am starting to get  sick of our little Chapel Hill...those low taxes in Winterville are starting to look really nice.

Nov 11...Terry...WALMART, AGAIN...9:48 am

Regarding Henry's question on the USSR comment in my previous comment

The USSR is a “poster child” for what NOT to do with planning.
Their centralized planning with its mindless adherence to the “plan”
led, in a large part, to their economic collapse.

The Council’s mindless adherence to that darn Horizon plan
led to a real stupid economic decision for the City of Greenville.

Chip Little looks pretty good right now.

Nov 12...Karen...RENAME THE CONVENTION CENTER...8:16 am

The Mildred Council Convention Center!!!

Nov 11...Robert...CALVIN MERCER AND THE CITY COUNCIL...6:07 pm

I just watched the interview with Calvin Mercer on TV.  What a blow hard.  This is what you get when you elect eggheads who think they know more than the rest of the city.  When Henry Hinton asked him why this development is worse for the neighborhood than the Best Buy shopping center has been for Lynndale he totally copped out by saying that he wasn't a part of that decision and he would have to research it.  Isn't that what he should have done before voting no on a project that could add hundreds of thousands of dollars to the tax base of the city and 700 jobs?

This is what you get when you put college professors in charge of the city.  I can't wait for the next city council election.

Nov 11...Marcie...CITY COUNCIL MADE THE RIGHT DECISION ON WAL MART...4:39 pm

I could not disagree with Terry's comments more.  I would like to thank the city council for not jumping at an out of town developer's wishes to come to our city and totally distroy another neighborhood.  Good development is good for everybody.  Bad development is only good for the developer.  This project should be built in an area where it will not affect families trying to raise their children and have a postive quality of life.  I would dare say that Terry is one of the many who are complaining about the city losing these jobs but would have been the first in line to fight against it if it was going to be built next to his home.  We can have the jobs and good development without this kind of overbearing and unfair development.  If Wal-Mart wants another location in Greenville they will find another piece of land to build it on.

Nov 11...Terry...WAL MART...11:13 am

I listen to Calvin Mercer this morning justify his opposition to the Wal Mart on 33 by saying that the Land Use Plan rules.

Unfortunately, Calvin doesn’t quite understand how the US economy or business
operates . If Calvin wishes to see how centralized planning works, I suggest he dust off some history books on the demise of the USSR and its centralized planning efforts that help lead to its downfall.

Clearly, Calvin and Larry Spell are anti- business and anti- jobs and they use the Land Use Plan as a convenient scapegoat.  ( I haven’t figured out Kittrell’s brain on all this- he being a businessman and all- must want to be Mayor and this, he thinks, is a populist vote that will get him elected). Calvin , Larry, the planning employees and others have no real idea what is “best” for a specific piece of property. They were guessing when they put the Plan together and they are guessing now. I do not know what the absolute best use of any particular piece of property is until an offer is on the table.

What these gentlemen do not understand is that the Land Use Plan is approved as a “Macro” document not a “micro” document. There was no way in God’s green earth that anybody would have thought that a major commercial complex would go there, so the planners left it as residential and agriculture and gave it no further thought.

This is a typical Marco/Micro problem in business classes that some council members and planners apparently didn’t take. Just because a particular piece of property is in the macro plan document in a particular zoning doesn’t mean that the property must stay that way because of the Plan document. Life changes, economies change and City’s change. Folks , instead of a 900 bed hospital on the other side of town we would be looking at tobacco fields if Mercer , Spell and the neighbors over there had their way.

What I do know, is that this project would have relieved congestion on Greenville Blvd., created a ton of jobs , added smartly to the tax base and been a boon to the area’s economy when everybody else’s economy  in the USA is going down.

The Vote was wrong. A Darn shame.

Nov 11...Karen...CALVIN MERCER...9:01 am

I listened to Calvin Mercer interview – WHAT A BORE – he talked a lot and said NOTHING!
However, I did hear him mention the word “CRIME”, as it relates to the “long term” decisions regarding land use!

Nov 10...J.K...TO CAROL...10:42

Carol, you win the award today for being a sick twisted and over all sour woman. It is my opinion that Henry speaks differently with Lynette because she is married and is being respectful to her marriage. Ive heard him more than once ask about her husband. Since you didn't really say it, I am assuming that you were actually implying that Henry speaks differently with Lynette because she is a different race. If that is the case, what a horrible person you are. I listen most every day, and I just don't get the creepy thing. It doesn't seem like the girls have any problem with Henry, only a few ultra sensitive listeners like Carol.

Nov 10...Joy...PARADES AND THE PCS BUDGET...4:36 pm

The Pitt County Schools’ administration recently issued an edict that the area marching bands may only participate in two parades per year. This decision was made response in to travel restrictions, and, I have been told, for budgetary reasons. However, if you read my comments in my letter to the Daily Reflector, you will note the difficulty we, as parents and band boosters, have in understanding this logic. Our band boosters pay all our band’s travel expenses (and gas prices are significantly lower now), and the parade organizers actually contribute to the bands (usually about $250 to $300) for their participation. We have students in our Farmville attendance area from Greenville, Fountain, Falkland, and Farmville, and our students would like to march in “their” own parades. Further, we are concerned that one impact of this decision will be that our parades will have few, if any, marching bands in them this year – and what is a parade without marching bands?

Nov 10...Carol...THE GIRLS ON THE SHOW...4:12 pm

Already too much has been said about Mr. Hinton's borderline comments to and about the two Christines and the two Jennifers and others.  Clearly the comments are unnecessary and condescending.  Our question here is Why has Henry never, ever, made such comments to or about Lynnete Taylor?  Henry....is there a reason here????  Hmmmmmmm......

Nov 10...Luther...WTIB SUNDAY AM...4:01 pm

I love your station. However every sunday morning as i am listening to the sports, at exactly 730am the program is interrupted by Henry Hinton's interviews.  That is ok cause he does a good job.  Except.....for 5 consecutive weeks it is the same interviews...what is that all about??  So I have heard the Domestic Abuse and the Lenoir County sherrif's conduct at Dowdy Ficklin Stadium 5 times.  Are your sponsors paying for all these repeats??

Nov 10...Roger...CONGRESSMAN JONES... 9:12 am

Thank you for having Walter Jones on your show this morning.  I live outside his district unfortunately and cannot vote for him but please tell him there are those of us out here who are true conservatives and appreciate his belief in God and the way it directs him.  If the Republican party had listened to him three years ago instead of belittling his points of view they would not have been demolished last Tuesday.

Congressman Jones stays on message and stays true to his beliefs.  I loved his comments this morning when he said his father taught him to 1) vote his conscience, 2) vote the way his constituents want him to and 3) vote the way his party wants him to in that order.

We need more in Congress like Walter Jones.  Please pass along my condolescences on the death of his sister as well.

Nov 7..Terry..TIME FOR OUR CITY COUNCIL TO BE REPLACED AGAIN..10:14 am

Calvin Mercers says jobs and tax base is not an issue in the Wal mart thing

I predict he will be gone after the next election after such stupid comments
With the economy the way it is

Too bad Spell will continue there,

However Calvin’s constituents

Will see through his anti  business stance on issues

And elect someone else

Real dumb Wal- Mart  decision, calvin

Nov 6...Artemis...UNIONS...5:35 pm

I don't agree that all unions are bad and should be banned.  They've accomplished some good things for workers.  Not surprised that your position and that of your co-hosts and guests is just for owners, but workers are important, too.  We know you are not going to give both sides of an issue and your talk show lineup proves it.   Why don't you mention that Sarah Palin's husband is a member of the United Steelworker's union and that she introducted him that way in Michigan?  Guess you're just trying to be "fair and balanced."

Nov 5...Scott...CHANGE IS INEVITABLE...5:38 PM

OK everyone relax!  As a conservative I too am not happy with the outcome of the election.  However, history should of revealed that one party does not control the White House or Congress forever.  Look at the Past 40 plus years.  JFK (Dem), LBJ (Dem), Richard Nixon (Rep), Gerald Ford (Rep), Jimmy Carter (Dem), Ronald Reagan (Rep), George Bush, Sr (Rep), Bill Clinton (Dem), George Bush, Jr. (Rep) and now Barack Obama (Dem).

While I do not agree with many of the positions taken by Senator Obama during his campaign, you have to give him credit for providing many Americans a HOPE that his leadership will provide better times ahead.  His ability to effectively communicate this message is why he won the election.

If you, like myself, are of the conservative persuasion, then rest assured that we will have another opportunity to win back both the White House and Congress.  If you don't believe me, then go to the library and read a history book.

Nov 5...Luther...UNION REPRESENTATION...5:02 pm

You need to understand what it means for a union to be certified as the representative of employees of a business.  The only, and I mean the only, thing the owner is required under law to do is to bargain in good faith with the union.  The owner never, never, has to agree to anything.  So the decision remains with the owner and as long as he meets and bargains in good faith he never has to agree to anything.  And if the union decides to strike......remember the Air Traffic Controllers!!!
So, while representation is a distraction to the owner, he still retains the right to make the decision!!

Nov 5...Debra...FROM THE HEART...10:14 am

Dear Loved Ones,

I bring you a voice of good cheer this morning. The morning after! The morning in which, not to question our faith as far as what we prayed for, but in our hearts we probably knew that we would face Obama to be our next president. This is not the end of the world due to the fact, that today is just like any other day, people driving to work, kids are off to school, and people are walking into their office talking on their cell phones, just like usual. Everything is normal. But, there is a change in my spirit. I feel a stirring in my soul. I feel a shifting in the wind (not just because the wind is blowing outside and it is overcast). I laid in my bed last night and I had a moment of fear and the feeling of distress overcame me, but in speaking the name of Jesus I felt a peace come into my spirit! I know in my heart and beyond a shadow of doubt that if God wanted McCain in office to be our next president, he would have won. That is not speaking a spirit of defeat, that is speaking a spirit of God is in control! I give him praise!

I was raised in church and ALL my life I have been told God is coming back and soon! There was times in my life that a feeling of here we go again, same old, same old. But in my spirit I have a stirring more than ever, these are the times of his coming. I may not live to see it and then again, I may. But the truth of the matter, this is the time to stand up, shake ourselves, for we have had it easy too long (talking about our spiritual lives) and now we must shake off the being rocked to sleep due to the fact we are safe and God will take care of it, and stand up and be counted for. HIS COMING is sooner than we think. Are we going to have to prove, yes we are willing to fight what we believe in and stand up for our rights before God comes back, so WE can make it into heaven?

My heart is not heavy concerning the election. My heart is heavy for my friends and love ones who are lost and do not see the signs of the time that is at hand. This is not joke. This is real and we no longer can sit back and say to ourselves that we have time on our side before they are lost. I feel like God is standing with one leg ready to step out and the only reason He has not come back to get his bride, is because the few who are asking Him to wait a little longer so our love ones can be saved. I listen to Rev. Williams praying Sunday night in our weeping service, “even so come quickly, Lord”. The bible speaks that the saints of God will start praying even so come quickly Lord. I am more and more drawn to that prayer. My love ones know the truth, they are now going to have to make a choice of serving God or go on continuing to get by and face a very burning ending. It is now up to me to shine even more for Jesus, for I may be the only Jesus some people see. GOD IS COMING and it is sooner than we think! I want to be ready. I want my friends that I work with know He is coming and they need God! I want my love ones saved. My love ones who were raised in a church just like me and know in their hearts there is a God and that He is coming back and we must give our hearts to him in order to be saved. This is no longer the time to play around and hope we get to say save me in our last moment, for that can not happen in a twinkling of a eye. Just think, batting our eyes and we could be face to face with Jesus! How awesome is that for us who are ready, how sad to those who have been left behind!!!!!

So be of good cheer, God’s coming is near.
My faith is not dismay
The sound of the trumpet is about to blow
My ears are waiting to hear.

I’ll be standing in His presence
Standing around His throne
Singing praise forever more
So raise your head high, His coming is neigh
Forever His love is KNOWN!!!

May God bless each and every one of you! Don’t be discouraged; be in courage God is in control. Last and not least, We can do ALL things thru Christ who strengthen us. Smile, someone loves you and it is not just me!!! GOD!!!

Nov 5...Bill...UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT...9:42 am

As a conservative, I am very disappointed.  But it's our own fault.  Overall, we Republicans ran a terrible campaign.  We gave up in too many areas.  The head of the Republican Party in my county never contacted me after I volunteered to help in May 2008.  We must get our grassroots movement back.  We have to use the internet more.  Just because we may be outnumbered in a county or city, doesn’t mean that we should give up.  EVERY VOTE COUNTS!  The Republican Party needs a top to bottom review.  We must take back our country in 2010 & 2012.  But first we must take our country back.  We must return to our Reagan principles.  We must offer the American people a choice between the Democrat Party and us.  We have no one to blame but ourselves.  It’s past time that we laced up our boots, take our Conservative Movement underground & in exile & take back our party & take back our Country!!!

Nov 5...Chuck...VOTERS...8:12 am

I am not sure I really understand why you keep harping on the black voter. It is my understanding that most black voters are democrats. I think your argument that people voted for Obama only because the candidate was black would hold more water if the candidate was conservative. For example, if Condelisa Rice had run for president, and the majority of black voters voted for her, then you would have a compelling argument that the only reason they voted for her was because she is black.

Nov 4...Pierre...DEVISIVE TALK SHOW HOSTS...11:29 am

I have listened to talk radio for a long time.  But the only person I can stomach now is Clark Howard.  I have been a registered republican for 28 years but I can not stand the devisive rhetoric and speech that is coming from conservatives these days. There are no two sides to everything anymore, it is all very hate filled and one sided. Liberals can be christians and nice people. I have decided to change my registration to independent after the election.

Nov 3...Frank...SUNDRY COMMENTS...10:35 am

To Nanette who said healthcare is a privilege not a right
Come back to me dear when you and your husband, if you have one,
get laid off and you have to pay for the healthcare privilege and you have two sick kids.
Dah

Wal Mart- do not you get it Henry?
Your comments were way off- Wal mart doesn’t employ 2,066,000 people worldwide
(Largest employer in the world by the way) because it’s a “bad” company
If you don’t want to shop there that’s fine, but bashing them is stupid
And shows a narrow-mindedness I would think would be beneath you
As a radio show host

Your station would do better if it was more moderate
After Talk of the Town- I switch ,as your overzealous conservative talk show hosts make me sick
And hell, I am conservative

But your crowd is too “off the wall”
Loosen up

Nov 1...Bill...TO JAMES THE ATHIEST...8:33 am

Your comments on this website are typical of the liberal athiestic views that now permeate our country.  You act as though you are a member of some club that has been discriminated against in some way.  The truth is that Christians pray for people like you.  We grew up believing in God and knowing that his existence is what sustains us.

Your comment that you find it "appalling that the stigma against us made it into a campaign ad in the first place" is also typical.  Stigma?  Against athiests?  You mean people who belive in God actually have a stigma against you?  How unfair of us.  This is the very point of Senator Dole's ad.  If you've seen her new commercial it says that Kay Hagan's faith is not the question.  Taking money from people like you is the issue.

This country was founded on Christian principles.  There are those of us who don't want people like you to continue to try and convince our children and grandchildren that God does not exist.  If Hagan took money from them she is complicit in that effort and for that reason alone I will not vote for her.

So, James, if you live in eastern North Carolina where people are God fearing, for the most part, get use to the "stigma".

Nov 1...Buddy...HENRY'S COMMENTS ABOUT OIL COMPANIES...7:15 am

Here are a couple of comments or facts since you brought up the $15 billion or so in profits for the oil industry.  That's a lot of money.  It's a lot of money because there is a lot of invested capital in the oil industry and their revenues are large.  Here are some facts that put your comment in perspective.

1.  84% of the shares in energy companies are owned by mutual funds, pension funds, and IRAs.  In other words, by folks like you and me saving for our retirement.  NY Times August 30, 2008

2.  Oil companies make $1400 per second in profits;  they pay $4000 per second in taxes and incur $15000  in operating costs in that same second. Washington Post August 28, 2008

3.  Profit margin on sales in the oil industry ranks 57th among all the industries in the world, reported by Yahoo Finance.  Yahoo Finance buys its data from independent companies listed in the footnote on the Yahoo Finance page.

This kind of puts things in perspective.  Large companies make huge amounts of money but not so much when one compares profit to sales, operating costs, and other industries.

Oct. 31...James...DOLE'S ATTACK AD...9:10 am

I'd like to take a moment as an atheist myself to question why accepting donations from one of us is any worse than accepting donations from Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or any other donors not of the Christian religion. Christians in America seem to do a better and better job of at least seeming like they are more accepting of other religions (if not actually being more accepting), but for some reason they cannot show the same consideration to those of us who chose not to hold religious views at all? We are not bad people, we are not immoral people, we simply have slightly different views. We still believe killing or hurting people is bad, we still donate money to charities, we still vote on the issues we believe will help America become better, and help Americans as well, among many other things.

Nevermind the problems with the ad (how Hagan is not atheist, or how the meeting was not held by the Godless Americans PAC, how that is definitely not her voice at the end of the ad), I find it appalling that there is such a stigma against us that it would make it into a public campaign ad in the first place. If it were any other religious denomination, Dole would be inundated with protests, not just from people of those religions, but from plenty of accepting Christians as well. I don't get offended often, but this time I really am.

On one final note, I'd like to quote Article VI, section 3, of the United States Constitution, which states, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

Oct 29...Chuck...PREDICTION...8:42 am

The Amazing Kreskin I am not but here goes:

B.O. is going to be our next king...unless our system changes to one vote per dollar paid in taxes, he will probably be our king for 8 years. Heck, perhaps even longer as Obama will convince the public that these silly term limits for Kings should be abolished. After all, he is the new FDR

Within 3 months into King Barry's term, he will address the public. Expect this statement..."My fellow Americans, as you know I didn't want raise taxes on the middle class, however because of the mistakes of the former administration, I am forced to raise taxes on everyone" Joe the hairplugs will follow that with, "Its time for the middle class to be more patriotic."

My next prediction involves the media. Oh how the media will change when the great one has been crowned. When Barry takes over, despite what folks may believe, the war doesn't just end. Even Obama isn't dumb enough to pull all the troops home in January. First, he will withdrawal a very small % of the troops. He will state that the ending of the war has begun. The media will praise the king like he is JC. While nothing will have really changed in Iraq, note how the news coverage will change. Because of Obamas leadership, the war will actually start to become a success. The big news outlets will start running the humanitarian stories, showing our rebuilding of Mosques and hospitals. Of course these are things that are currently happening, but are not being reported. As soon as the king takes over, all will be well in Iraq. Every night the news will lead in with Iraqis dancing in the street, Iraqis shaking hands with soldiers and handsome soldiers holding Iraqis babies. Nothing positive currently will be reported in Iraq, but that will all change when Barry fixes Iraq.

Although I am not a big fan of Obama, when he does become our president, he will also be my president and i will respect him as best I can. I wish those who weren't fans of W would have given him a little more respect.

Palin 2012

Oct 28...Tracie...JOSH HAMILTON...10:06 am

I heard that Josh Hamilton is going to be speaking at a church on Nov. 6th. Do you have nay information on tickets or how to get access to hear him speak?

STATION RESPONSE:  Josh Hamilton will speak at Rock Springs Center on Nov 6th at 7 pm for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  TIcket information can be obtained at www.easternncfca.org  or by calling 757-0122.

Oct 27...Mike...DIDN'T SEE HENRY AT THE BIDEN SPEECH...2:27 pm

Hello Henry, I missed seeing you at the JOE BIDEN speech this morning.  I looked for you in grundge crowd, and in the goth crowd.  I didn't see you with the dried up mothers who used to be hippies but are now pushing grandkids and still wearing the same tie-died floor length skirts, nor did I see you among the homeless guys there.  I didn't see you amongst the Nation of Islam group.  You weren't hanging with those people from the Great American Mining Company were you?  I didn't see you with the skateboard punks or with short-haired women with their life partners.

Were you, perhaps, one of the several dozen people who asked me, "What's going on here?" followed by "Who's Joe Biden?"

Oct 25...Scott...JUST ONE QUESTION...5:54 am

Is Sarah hotter in person than she is on TV?

10/24..Nannette...READ WHAT I WROTE...9:22 am

In reviewing what I wrote in a previous posting, it seems I left out an important word, when it comes to the prospect of National Healthcare,  Healthcare is a Priviledge NOT a Right.  It is not my responsibility as a hard-working tax-payer in ensure that the rest of the Country has adequate healthcare.  Each person needs to do FOR THEMSELVES.

Also, I agree with Chuck - another "Poster"--He is great, wonder if he is married ;) - This town is a bunch of cry babies...local businesses have to learn to compete with Franchises.  If a local business owner in going to compete that business owner has beat the franchise at it's own game.  Do what a franchise cannot do because of the limitations of being a Franchise.  It is not the job of the City Council or the Zoning Committee to make sure any business is profitable.   It is the responsiblity of the business owner to be able to anticipate and exceed the expectations of his customers no matter what the business is.  If the business fails then the responsiblity for the failure lies solely on the shoulders of the business owner.

10/23...Chuck...THE NEW WALMART IN GREENVILLE...9:01 am

Henry, despite my comment here, I love the show, always listen each day.  I do understand your point on Wal Mart, I just couldn't disagree more. Although I HATE shopping at Wal Mart, I am very happy that they are here. I shop there once or twice a week and as long as I don't get robbed in the parking lot, I will probably continue to shop there until the time that money is not the issue.

I guess that the problem I have with your comments is as follows. You seem to be pro business as long as it suits you. I shouldn't question your sincerity on this specific issue, however I have felt before that you are a bit of a whore to whoever is writing the advertising check. Please understand that I don't think there is anything wrong with supporting your advertisers, as it would be stupid to do otherwise. There are some businesses that just don't get anything out of joining the chamber, or having a big local presence; wal mart being one of them. Has Ultra90 joined the chamber? Perhaps you should talk about what Ultra90 has done for the community. How has Ultra90 kept the money local (other than buying advertising time). One thing I do know about Walmart is with the 1000's of products on their shelves, I have yet to see the snake oil aisle. Eat less and exercise...or just take a bunch of pills.

I do understand your point about helping local business. When the price is close, I would always buy local; however the price never seems to be close. If I want to "join this century" and buy a new HD TV, I am sure that I will either buy it online or from a big box store, and will probably pay 30-40% less (and no tax if bought online).  At this point in my (financial) life, I must spend less money when it is an option. When I am older, if I have earned and saved appropriately,  I will be able to shop as you do (if I choose)...however at that time, I do hope that there will be low cost stores available for young families and anyone that just doesn't have a lot of money in their budget. I guess when you are a millionaire, its hard to understand why people would shop at walmart.

On a related note, this community has got to be the most crybaby city in the world. Nothing can be built here without a coalition of idiots running down to town hall to oppose the progress. People need to relax...its a freaking Wal Mart! You would think they were trying to open a strip club.

Oct 23.. James...OBAMA AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS...12:38 am

If Obama spits out the social programs he wants to do here is an example of what will happen.  This story comes from the great State of Hawaii on 10/17/08, in which, Hawaii implemented a universal health care for all children (birth to 18).  Hawaii could not handle the 2,000 kids enrolled in the program that cost taxpayers $50,000 a month or $25.50 per child per month.  The state estimated that they would have had as many as 16,000 children in the program in a state with a 1.3 million population and sited that they could not afford the program by 2011; SO after 7 MONTHS Hawaii pulled the plug.

Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services said: "People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free,".  The program was to end November 1st but the children on the program have now been picked up by the private Hawaii Medical Service Association until the end of the year with no payment and can continue with the HMSA after the new year for a cost. This is what happens in a socialist government....WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!   No good will ever come from government handouts and the money still has to come from somewhere to pay the bill.  Here is the story:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081017/ap_on_he_me/child_health_hawaii

This part is to Jeffery about Oblah blah bama and abortion, read this report link below. Obama acknowledges the items Henry pointed out.  Obama says it was not about the safety of the patients but the right to choose:
http://www.nrlc.org/ObamaBAIPA/Obamacoveruponbornalive.htm

Second if it's such an obtuse procedure and no one supports partial birth abortions then why is it allowable and yet why is it not banned ?

Oct 22...Greg...TV CONVERSION ISSUE...4:05 pm

I am a loyal Talk of the Town listener.

Just wanted to know if what you said on the radio this morning in regards to digital TV was 100% accurate.  You said your mother would have to get a new TV because she did not have cable.  I have direct TV and have been told that I will not need a new TV.(like you, I have already bought a HD TV anyway)

Oct 22...Tim...TV TRANSITION...11:56 am

Henry said that after February 17th you can no longer get free over the air signals with the digital switch...this is not true. You can still receive the signal  FREE with a converter box. He also said that if you have Suddenlink cable, you won't have to worry about it. That's true and you won't have to worry about it either if you have DISH or DirecTV satellite TV because that is also a digital signal. Sounds like Henry is hiding some facts for Suddenlink which is an advertiser on your station.

Oct 22...Thomas...BOB ETHERIDGE...8:35 am

Congressman Etheridge should have simply said, "Obama is a Democrat and I'm a Democrat so I must support him." To say that people are looking for for a "moral" leader and imply that Obama is that leader is ludicrous. His associations with some very shady characters as well as his voting history on partial birth abortion are clear indicators that his morality is questionable at best.

What is more amazing than putting forth Mr. Obama as a moral leader is suggesting that he can lead in economic recovery. He voted to prevent reforming Freddy and Fannie while accepting huge amounts of money from them. The Democrat congress created the monsters that are the primary causes of the financial crisis; so the electorate is going to kick out Republicans. Go figure.

Oct 22...Von...ETHERIDGE...9:06 am

I see Obama has Etheridge in his pocket now.  Etheridge made a lousy attempt to dodge your questions, and like Obama, and others that try to defend Obama, he sounded foolish and uninformed.  I just don't understand why people have fallen under Obama's spell.  When I ask someone why they are for Obama, they sputter and pop, and cannot give me any real answers, just like Etheridge.  Many cannot tell me why they are for Obama, but they're voting for him.  Why?  Where is plain old common sense?

Every politician says they won't raise taxes, and I think that some of them actually believe it when they're trying to get elected, but as a voter, one should look at the character of the person they would like to have in office.  I think John McCain has made mistakes, but doesn't everyone, but I think he truly will try to help our country, and not just help himself.  I feel Obama's character is flawed in many ways, and he's only in this race, can I say that word?, to benefit himself, not our country.  He and the ones that are hiding behind him are just waiting for the power that will come if he is elected that will enable them to turn our country into their toy.

Please, I beg everyone who is thinking of voting for Obama, do your homework.  Don't be afraid to open your mind and look at both sides carefully.

Oct 22...Jeffrey...A CANARD...8:24 am

A canard is a French work for duck. It also means a deliberately false story.  While listening to your conversation with Rep. Etheridge this morning, you jumped on Obama's support of partial birth abortion.  That is a canard.  No one supports partial birth abortions as a means of birth control.  I challenge you to go the Brody building or the hospital and poll the doctors to see how many even know of one that was performed for any reason much less for birth control.  It is an obtuse medical procedure used only in the most rare cases.

The point is that Sen. Obama opposses government telling doctors what procedures are allowable and what they can and cannot do for the safety of theri patients.

The constant use of the partial birth abortion tag by the right is a sure sign of your desparation and inability to find a legitimate argument to hang your hat on

Oct 22...Mike...ETHERIDGE INTERVIEW...8:20 am

WHY IS IT THAT THE DEMOCRATS ARE AFRAID TO ANSWER DIRECT QUESTIONS ABOUT ISSUES OTHER THAN "WE WANT CHANGE"?  THEY ARE AFRAID TO TELL US HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT THE PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION AND OTHER MORAL ISSUES BECAUSE THEY HAVE NONE.  SORRY TO JUMP ON MY BAND WAGON, BUT IT GRATES MY NERVES WHEN SOMEONE LIKE BOB ETHERIDGE WILL NOT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION BUT WILL INSTEAD TRY TO SKIRT THE ISSUES.

Oct 22...Nanette...CONGRESSMAN ETHERIDGE INTERVIEW...8:08 am

1) Why would a Congressman endorse someone who he does not know well enough to answer important platform questions about

2) A negative statement in regard to a political opponent is not negative if the facts support the statement.  People do judge you by the company you keep.  It has been turn since the dawn of time.  We tell it to our kids, and most people live by it.

3) How can we afford another stimulus package --we are already in debt.  Bouncing a Check doesn't help the bottom line, it increases a household dilemma.

4) It is NOT Patriotic to pay more taxes.  Small businesses and Corporation are not the "Cash Cow" that Democrats purport them to be.  I

5) My income is MY INCOME...not somebody elses

6) Healthcare is a right NOT a priviledge.  It is not my responsiblity to take care of everyone else.

7) FINALLY--a broken hip on an 89 year old woman is NOT a
downturn in her health it is a chronic problem of age.

Oct 22...Steve...ECONOMICS 101...8:48 am

I'm no economist, but it seems a pretty easy concept to grasp.  When are democrats going to realize that if something costs you more to produce, you have to pass that cost along to the consumer?  Therefore, if the government raises taxes on "big corporations," it will cost them more to do business and the following will result:
1 - they will have to increase prices of products and services (inflation)
2 - if things cost more, people will not be able to buy as much
3 - a decrease in revenues to these companies results in:
- decline in revenue which would then decrease the amount of taxes they pay
- decline in stock prices

- forced cutbacks in personnel to offset losses (layoffs)

4 - If the stock prices to these "big corporations" decline, then the big losers are not the "fat cat CEOs", but the people whose retirements or 401Ks are in the stocks of the companies.

Oct 21...Martin...ECU FOOTBALL PLAYERS BECOMING EMBARRASSMENT..7:09 pm

How many more arrests will there be this season for the East Carolina players?  Holtz needs to get a handle on what the hell is happening with his people.  This is becoming embarrassing.  Jonathan Williams was a high risk all along.  Why was he even still on the team after all the things that he has done, some public and some not so public.  Based on last year's Hawaii experience and his other exploits what was Holtz expecting.  Play with fire and you get burned, Skippie.

Oct 21...Sam...REGARDING THE DISCUSSION ON TOT ON THE MANFRED MANN SONG...7:55am

The deuce mentioned in the Springsteen/Manfred Mann song "Blinded By the Light", is a car and I've heard two versions of which car it may be . The first is the Electra 225 from the early sixties, also nicknamed the "deuce and a quarter", shortened to "deuce".  The more likely version is the 1932 Deuce Coupe, made famous by the Beach Boys song, "Little Deuce Coupe".

Manfred Mann's version said "Wrapped up like a deuce", but they definitely pronounce it like the other word everyone thinks they're saying. Springsteen's original version is "Cut loose like a deuce", and although garbled a bit like all Springsteen songs, he does say "deuce".

Very possibly more than anyone ever wanted to know about this subject.

Oct 20...Mac...LABOR UNIONS ISSUE...9:09 am

Very good discussion this am regarding the bill to eliminate the secret ballot for employees to be represented by a union.  I worked my entire career for a Fortune 500 industrial giant with hundreds of manufacturing plants both unionized and non unionized.  There are many reasons why both employers and employees are not best served when employees are represented by unions.

As I listened to your interview it ocurred to me that something was missing.  I respectfully suggest that you have some pro Bill people on your program to explain why they support the bill. My guess is that their position and logic will be exposed for what it is: simply a union attempt to increase their coffers.  And I am sure that Henry can ask questions they would have difficulty handling.  We need for folks to see this effort for what it is.

Again, my suggestion is to give these people the opportunity for equal time and if they decline, Henry can report that which will speak volumes for their weak position.  Then Henry can exploit that as well.

This Bill cannot be allowed to pass without our helping folks to understand it and contacting their senators asking to vote it down.

Oct 20...Nathan....REGARDING CHRIS JOHNSON'S CELEBRATION...7:48 am

From the Tennessian:  “As for Johnson's unique celebration, Fisher vowed it would be the rookie's last. The coach told him not to show up his opponents any more, at least not in celebration.
Johnson said he got the message.”

Oct 18...Bill...PIRATES HAVE NO QUARTERBACK CONTROVERSY...5:35 pm

Henry Hinton and Denny O'Brien kept talking about a quarterback controversy during the post game show today.  I agree with Denny.  There is NO quarterback controversy.  The only controversy is WHY did it take Holtz so long to start playing Rob Kass again.  Henry said that Holtz wanted to have one guy as the starter this year.  Well, the sign of a good coach is his ability to adjust to his team's needs.  Pinkney had two good games and has been pretty horrible since.  After the Memphis win this should be Kass' team.

Oct 16...Robert...WE'RE AT WAR. BOY ARE WE DUMB...9:55 am

There are currently 12 million illegal aliens in the United States.  North Carolina has the 8th largest illegal alien population in the county estimated at 300,000.  There is fierce debate everywhere on what to do with illegal aliens who have sneaked across our borders.

What do you call 300,000 illegal in North Carolina (a labor force).   Have you bought your Mexican Flag yet?
300,000.00 not paying taxes (say 1,000.00 per) $300,000,000.00 a year in lost taxes  (they are on the flat tax we are not ) and does the unemployment  numbers include the illegals

The workers in  the U.S.  are competing against the illegal worker and in 1970 you could buy 4 Gallons of gas For $1.00 And only making a dollar hour.  This is for a kid that was 14 years old

Do you want bring  main street Back?
1.       Go to a flat tax
2.       Stop all people coming to the U.S. for ten years
3.       Get the illegal’s the hell out of here
4.       Limit Card rates to 9% and do away with late charges
5.       All atm charges must be spilt in half with local schools limit to two dollars forever
6.       Cut the gas tax in half
7.       Put a freeze on hiring Gov worker for ten years
8.       Convert  as many parts of Gov. to Private companies as possible starting all Dept of Transportation counties and State
9.       Put a freeze on all increase on utilities for the next ten years and allow only an increase  rates every four years after that.  New rates must be approved  just before elections. They remain at the current for the next four years
10.   Require all schools to be neighbor schools and all children living in a three miles radius will walk to school no high school student will be allow to Drive to school all bus stops will be three miles for schools all the kid get a work out
11.   All schools  and Gov. office to run two shifts from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and 3:30pm to 11:30 pm all Gov. office completely staff, no summer schools, this will reduce the need for new schools and highways
12.   And there is  a lot more

Oct 15...Linda...CLARK RULES!!!.... 7:22 pm

I finally remembered to check out the new website tonight.  Great looking site.  Also I totally agree with Tim and DISAGREE with Nanete.  I absolutely love Clark Howard.  I keep it on while I'm working during the day.  What a smart man.  Clark has helped me change the way I do things with my money and helped me learn how to save.  I have actually called in on his show and got on one day.  The man's a genuis.  Thanks for putting his show on in Greenville.

Oct 15...Tim...CLARK HOWARD...11:51 am

Putting Clark Howard on the schedule is the best thing your station EVER did. Where else in this country can we get information like Clarks gives us everyday that we all can benefit from? Answer: NOWHERE!!!

Oct 15...Nannette...MAKING MY CHRISTMAS LIST EARLY...10:27 am

This is my radio listening Christmas List

1) Glenn Beck and the Glenn Beck Christmas Show in Greenville-instead of Clark Howard
2) Mark Levin-instead of Clark Howard
3) No more Rusty Humphries--George Noory
4) No more Phil "What's-His Face"-Dr. Laura Pre-Recorded
or Dave Ramsey

Here's hoping the Radio Santa is listening and will put us out of our misery when it comes to Clark,Phil, and Rusty. UGH!!! Having them remain in 2009 is "Radio Listener Coal" in our stockings.   If we have to endure a Obama Presidency, at least give us some entertainment to get us through the next 4 years.

Oct 15...Mike...OBAMA'S CALCULATED PLAN...9:14 am

On Tuesday night Oct 14, PBS FRONTLINE aired a 2-hour show which details the rise of Barack Obama and John McCain.  The show outlined how Obama made calculated decisions very early in his adult life designed to put him into the political arena, first by moving to Chicago, which was described as the "Black US Capital" because it is the headquarters of Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrahkan, Harold Washington's political base, and other significant Af.American political powers.  Obama then chose Trinity Church because of its politically appealing influence within the AF.American community.  Obama had to prove he was "black enough" through working as the community organizer and by attending Trinity Church.

Later, Obama entered Harvard Law School and courted the members of the conservative Federalist Society, specifically seeking them out to build coalitions which led to his election as president of the Harvard Law Review. Obama needed white conservatives and tailored his life and his message to attract them to him.

As a State Senator and later as a US Senator, Obama was identified as a protege' by top level Democrats, namely Tom Daschle and Ted Kennedy, and put into positions where he would gain credibility. His activities were closely scripted and he was personally instructed on what to do and what not to do. While the show does not specifically use the  term "annointed", it is very clear that Obama was annointed by the Democratic Senators as being their hope to gain the white house.

Obama's 2004 speech at the Democratic Convention was the exact same speech he has given dozens of times to small community groups in Chicago, made to be a generic speech about hope and attractiveness, and non-offensive to anyone, so as to appeal to all parties on the surface.

In reference to the Jeremiah Wright episode, it was a calculated decision by Obama to attend the church and a political, calculated decision to distance himself from Wright when it became neccessary to do so.

Obama is like a turtle placed on top of a fence post, it is obvious that he did not get up there by himself. And one has to wonder why some jerk would put him up there to begin with.

In stark contrast to Obama,  the outline for John McCain's biography was an illustration of a man who measures his life by Duty, Honor, and Country.  Whenever McCain strayed from his self imposed code, then he would make mistakes such as his involvement with the Keating S-L mess, and his clumsey political campaigns.  Using his code of Honor, he would hold himself accountable and bring himself back to his "even strain" and regain his balance.  McCain truly thrives on service to others.

McCain adapts himself as politician to be sure, but his base values and core beliefs, moderate they may be, qualify him imminently more as somebody we can believe in and trust as the leader of our country.

Oct 14...Nathan...REGARDING ABORTION...12:08 pm

First Degree Murder is defined as a death resulting from a premeditated act.  How does abortion not fit this description?  If someone were to attack and kill a pregnant woman, they could concurrently be charged with the death of the unborn child as well.  Why is it any different for a woman to knowingly and purposely end the life of her unborn child?  As a Christian, I believe that life begins upon conception, and from that moment an unborn child is a living human being.  Barack Obama professes to be a follower of Christ, yet champions abortion as the right of a mother.  He believes this choice should be extended, even to the latter stages of pregnancy.  How can someone who professes to believe in the God who gives us life and breath, but uphold the choice of someone to knowingly end the life of a defenseless child?  Abortion is an offense of the most deplorable fashion, and is, at it's core no less than premeditated murder.  People can rationalize (albiet with a false rationale) and call the child a "fetus" but it is a life.
I think that conservatives and liberals alike believe in this country, and hope to see it prosper, we just have varying ideas on how to reach that goal. The abortion debate, however, is an issue more important than the economy, the war, or our global perceptions.  How can someone as a christian, or even as simply a moral person see merit in the casting of a vote for a man who supports unbridled, unequivocal, and unapologetic Murder.  Vote for issues you believe in, Vote for the direction of this country, but understand the ramifications of an Obama presidency.  Annually 750,000 children have been aborted in this country since the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973.  That is more than 26 million Americans who have been denied their constitutional RIGHT to LIFE in the 35 years since.  A vote for Barack Obama is an endorsement of this policy and to remain complicent in this is to go against the very values set forth by our founding fathers in the United States Constitution.  What if one of those children was the next Martin Luther King, the next Bill Gates, the next Albert Einstein?  We would not have these people and the world, as a whole, would be the poorer for it.

Oct 14...Nathan...THE SOCIALIST AGENDA...12:06 pm

When will America open it's eyes to what is really at stake in this election?  A vote for Barack Obama is an endorsement of the socioeconomic policies of Karl Marx, and the ideals of communism as a whole.  The tax policies Obama proposes are a textbook example of the redistribution of wealth that is required in the implemintation of a socialist econonomic system, and will lead to the collapse of capitalism.  Obama said himself that taxing the rich more is only "fair."  This my friends is no more than class warfare.  He is playing to the people who are angry at Americans who have done well for themselves, and seems intent on punishing them simply for realizing the American dream.  Capitalism is the reason that America is a beacon of hope for people all around the world seeking freedom and relief from oppression.  The capitalist system allows ordinary people, with good ideas and hard work, to get ahead and make something out of themselves.  Nowhere else in the world can people do this better.  Obama should understand this more than most, coming from a humble, working class backgound himself.  What most people seem to fail to understand is that you do not grow an economy by raising taxes, you do so by cutting them.  If you tax the people who create jobs to death, they will be unable to hire new workers and we will see the unemployment in this country go even higher.  Upon taking office in 1980, Ronald Reagan pulled America out of one of the worst periods of economic stagnation since the Great Depression by cutting taxes and letting the free market economy fix the situation.  The more we let government regulation into our lives, the more we invite the kind of control and subjugation that is rampant under communist controlled regimes in China, North Korea, and Cuba.  Is that the future you want for America?
Please open your eyes and understand what a vote for Obama would mean.  A system like that of the former Soviet Union, of government control and oppression where you rely on the government for everything.  Government should be the realization of the will of the people, not the oppressor thereof.

Oct 14...Nathan...VOTE...12:05 PM

It would be, in my opinion, the most grave error in judgement in the history of this country for her people to go to the polls in November and elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States.  We are now facing some of the most perilous times that we as Americans have ever encountered, and we cannot afford to get this wrong.  For me, a person can often be judged by the company they keep.  Take a look at this video of Barack Obama's pastor. Rev. Jeremiah Wright Now, people often make mistakes and say stupid things, but this kind of rhetoric is inexcusable.  A man Obama himself described as his "spiritual mentor" makes the claim that America is responsible for 9-11, the government created AIDS and drugs to subjugate the African American cummunity, and that "white people" like myself have no idea what it's like to be a black man.  I do not view myself as a white person of european descent, or a caucasian, or any other of those labels. I am an American.  It is the people who continue to label themselves and intentionally exclude themselves that are to blame for the separationist ideas that permeate society today.  Do we really want a President who has studied and been influenced by a man like Rev. Wright for over 20 years?  He is an inexperienced, self proclaimed "rockstar," who when it's necessary can deliver an eloquent speech and wow a crowd, but at the end of the day what's truly there?  It is at times like these when we need a strong presence, a steady hand to guide this country though these dangerous times.
John McCain is that hand. A man with over twenty years of service in the US Senate, A Navy pilot during Vietnam, and  a graduate of the US Naval Academy.  During Vietnam his plane was shot down and he was held captive for over 5 years.  Beaten daily, he was offered early release if only he would renounce his country.  He declined and said he would only return with his fellow POW's beside him.  That's the kind of resolve, the kind of courage it takes to be President of the United States.
I am a citizen, and a solder and I fully understand what a McCain administration might mean for me.  If Obama's elected, i'll probably never have to go to Iraq or Afghanistan, never have to be away from my wife and my family, but as I, and my family understand, this country's future is more important than getting this wrong.  John McCain will continue the fight the terrorists began on September 11th 2001, and will not give in to international pressures or weak minded apologists.  John McCain is the right man to lead this country and to secure a safer future for America.  Like I said America, we can't afford to get this one wrong.

Oct 14...Nanette...ISLAMIC DVD IN NEWSPAPER...9:10 am

This is a letter I sent to the reflector shortly after I sent a letter about Hollywood trying to influence the vote at Universities.  The I was told by the editor I would have to wait 16 days in order for it to be printed.  However, I opted not to have it printed because it would not be relevant.

All the terrorists turn out to be Muslim, but not all Muslims are terriorists.  We must be made aware and be educated.  I appreciated the DVD that was sent in the Reflector a few weeks ago.  We cannot put our heads in the sand and hope that "everyone plays nice".
I do not accept the "stamp of approval" by the Presbyterian Church.  It has condoned and promoted the harbouring of Illegal Aliens on the run from Border Patrol as well as supported other things in direct opposition to Biblical Teachings in order to promote "Inclusion".  I see the negative response of those in Authority within the Presbyterian Church to the DVD, as an indication that the DVD, made suppositions which were accurate, and founded in fact; information Americans need to be made aware of.  Holding hands and singing Kumbayah, will not change the mindset of people who see it as a directive from their god to put an end to American Culture.
American Women who enjoy our way of life should be aware of the social and religious morays that the Muslim Faith sees as blasphemous in our culture.  Islamic Muslim Women, are not permitted to drive, hold public office, teach or be seen in the company of a man unchaperoned.  Women who do, as well as those who have affairs or are raped are beaten or stoned to death.
On Oct. 6, a concert put on by popular Egyptian Singer, Tamer Hosni, was abruptly put to an end by an Islamic MP,  when an over enthusiastic female fan jumped on stage and hugged and kissed the singer.  Something which the MP found Blasphemous to the Islamic Muslim Faith.
In England and In France leaders of the Muslim Faith have a direct say in the social aspects of everyday life.  Such things as school prayer, which is permitted for children of the Islamic Muslim Faith, is not permitted for Christian Children.  In addition the simple scheduling of a funeral is not permitted on a Saturday, as Saturday is the Muslim Sabbath.  Is this what we want for America?
Being educated is nothing to fear, unless the information which is being deseminated threatens to undermine the plans of those for which ignorance is an advantage. Education, is not fear mongering if the fear and threats are real.

Oct 14...Debra...HOW DARE!!!!...8:29 am

Just wanted to say, how dare anyone bashing Henry!!! Once again I just want to say, you guys make my day!!! I have never felt like Henry was flirting with Kristine (hope I spelled her name correctly) but I feel like, even though you all can be serious, you guys always come out on top making bad comments and personal opinions become funny and not so uptight. We ALL need a kick start for another coming sometimes not so good day to help us remember, no matter what, life can be fun and there is hope for each day. I just love you guys and thanks so very much for starting each of my days off on a great start.

Also, I too went to see Govern Palin at Minge’s Coliseum and I was so proud to be with a bunch of energetic good folk who are PROUD of being Americans. I never though of it was being anything but that! We need to come together and support John McCain and Govern Palin at this scary time in history. I feel they will bring the best change in America and to our advantage. We will get change with Obama, but I am afraid it is not going to be the change we really want or need in America. We need someone who has fought for us and knows and loves our country, not someone who is going to bring our country down….My opinion, and this is what is so great about America, we are allowed to have this freedom to have our opinion and this can be taken away from us if we are not careful!!!

I truly want to say “God Bless America, land of the free”. Hope this stays that way..

Oct 13...Chris...VOTER FRAUD...2:26 pm

I am so ticked off about the Acorn voter fraud that I don't know what to do. I really feel like the people of this country are being dealt an injustice by their not being prosecuted. What if this was a conservative non-profit company doing a voter drive by fraud?

Oct 13...Snow...QUESTION ABOUT SUPPLEMENTS...10:36 AM

Oct 13...Tim...DAILY REFLECTOR EDITORIAL PAGE...9:56 am

Heard your comments about the letter to the editor in the The Daily Reflector  concerning the Sarah Palin event as a hate message to the audience. I was there and that is absolutely ridiculous and offensive to everybody else who was there. No such thing happened. What do you expect from The Daily Reflector. I'm more upset at you Henry for not calling out The Daily Reflector as to who they really are. The Daily Rejector or Rag-flector if you like is a left wing , liberal  paper that doesn't reflect the majority opinion of people in this area of the state and it disgusts me. I never hear you call them out for that. Are you afraid of them? They are so biased in their editorial page that The Daily Cos and MoveOn .org would be proud. They are a Cox Publication just like the Atlanta Journal Constitution and that alone should tell the story.
Man up Henry and expose The Daily Ragflector for who they really are.

Oct 12...Robert...BEHIND THE SCENES WITH PALIN ENTERTAINING...5:28 pm

Just wanted to drop you a note to say thanks for the behind the scenes blog on the Palin event.  I was there and thought you did an excellent job as the emcee.  Was interesting to hear about what was going on backstage.  Love your show and love your station.  Thanks for what you do.

Oct 12...David...EVEN MORE ADVICE FOR HENRY...3:54 pm

I love your show!  I think you guys do a fantastic job.  I find the 7 a.m. hour very entertaining and informative.  I have never been the type of person to write on message boards or leave listener comments, but I just wanted to pass this on to you because I am not the only who feels this way.  I absolutely love it when TOT has Christina Vitale and Christine Kennedy anchoring your news segments.  However, I find it a bit disturbing with the way you talk to them sometimes.  You're a married man in his mid fifties and you talk to them sometimes as if your McGee's age.  To be quite honest with you, it's kind of creepy.  I know that you don't mean for your remarks towards them to sound like you're making a pass, but it comes across that way.  I understand that you like them, but you tend to go overboard.  You constantly ask them very personal questions and often recommend that they join you at certain media-related functions.  At times, it sends the wrong message.  I enjoy your show and I will continue to listen, but when you have those two on, tone it down some.  I hate to say it, but I am speaking on the behalf of many, not just myself.

Oct 9...Sherri...PALIN VIST AND WTIB PROGRAMMING...10:45am

Please tell Henry Hinton he did a great job as the MC for the Sarah Palin rally.  What a great night and honor for Greenville to host it.  She is the real deal.  Let's hope and pray she is elected.  Obama would be a disaster for our country.  Great pictures on your website.

I love your most of your programs on 94.3.  Laura Ingraham and Clark Howard are my favorites.  I heard on Talk of the Town that Laura is coming to Greenville.  When will details be available and where will she be speaking?  Will we be able to meet her?

Oct 6...Nanette...MORE ON WEEKEND LISTENING...12:04 pm

i listened this weekend.  Didn't know the station already had a couple of "How-to" shows on Saturday. (oops  ! ) Listened to O'Reilly --didn't know he was on on the weekends.   oops!  He's listenable on the weekends. I am still pulling for George Noory and Glenn Beck.  I liked the Pirates Post Game Show a week ago, too.

The morning show during the week is still my favorite.

Oct 6...Mac...CHAMBER GUYS....11:02

The two gentlemen on Monday from the Chamber were 100% WIMPS!!  Never have I heard such talking around a subject.  Their letter to gov't officials should have said how they believe the vote should go rather than "do what;s in the best interest of business".  What a waste of time that interview was.   And then to talk "around" what may happen in the national election without making the statement "if the liberals get in" like you did is pure chicken. I already know of two others in addition to me who will not stay members beyond our present comittment.  We Chamber folks really don't need "officers" talking around what they really want to say.   Whimps!!!!!

Oct 3...Haywood...MORE ADVICE FOR HENRY...9:36 AM

I enjoy your show most of the time but would like to make one point. I was listening to your show Friday morning and you made the comment Sarah Palin couldn't pronounce words ending in "ing". You're one to talk. You pronounce Greenville as Greenvul. That's really annoying. When you're on TV and radio proper English matters. Just my opinion and I will continue to watch your show.

Oct 2...Walker...HOLTZ AND THE $$....4:43 pm

That old saying "what's good for the goose is good for the gander"  If Holtz has all these incentives for all this big money then maybe he needs to pay back money if he can't produce ie. beat NC STATE.

Oct 1...Lee...TO QUENTIN...4:14 pm

I too do not care for all the ads. I find myself turning the station for a few seconds until they are over. HOWEVER, these ads are beyond Henry’s control, thanks to our government. The PSA’s are mandatory.

Oct 1...Quentin...EASE UP ADS....11:10 am

Is there ANY way you can ease up or kill those ads about breast cancer, victims, etc by the Ad Council. They drive me nuts! Men have breasts? Give me a break. No I have a chest! Its the same things over and over. And one even talks about how the weather will be beautiful for everyone...everyone that except African Americans! That only promotes racism. They commercials are mostly far left liberal bs. Who is paying for them and who makes all the money?

Sept 30...Mack...TALK OF THE TOWN FAN...8:57 am

Enjoy Talk of the Town and other programs on your station.  Thanks for all you do to keep us informed.  I heard your comments this morning regarding Nancy Pelosi and agreed with every word you said.  She is absolutely the worse thing that has ever happened to this country.  The speech she made before the bailout vote was reprehensible.

Also heard your interview with Butterfield.  Thank you for making him stick to the issues and stop blaming Republicans.  Listening to him we should have known how the vote would go.

Thanks for the great programming.  You make my morning.  I never miss it.  Keep up the good work.

Sept 25...Mac...ADVICE FOR HENRY...12:53 pm

Your radio show is v good at times.  However, too often we cannot hear comments by your guests and staff because you feel compelled to have a point to make or a sarcastic word to pass on.  I have two points of advice that helped my career immensely when I had similar traits, ie. loved to hear myself talk.

FIRST:   Pay attention to Steven Covey's 3rd habit:  "Seek first to understand...then to be understood.

SECOND, and perhaps most impactful for me were the words of my father:  "Never miss an opportunity to shut up!!!

Sept 25...Chuck...ON THE BAILOUT AND BUTTERFIELD INTERVIEW...8:17 am

Just a couple of comments on the big bail out:

I am getting so sick of the ding dongs on TV that love to say, "this is going to cost each taxpayer 4 or 5 thousand dollars" None of the brilliant reporters ever say the truth, which is, for most people, the bail out will cost pennies. Lets remember the way our tax system is set up...90% of this bail out will be paid by 5% of our population. So next time you run into an evil rich guy, please thank him for helping out when you couldn't pay the  "BAD" mortgage that you promised to pay.

As for Congressman Butterfield yesterday. As the kids say, OMG!!!! Did he really say that mortgage lenders made loans that would increase in rate when they are a few days late?? This is just pure ignorance. I am in the mortgage industry. I don't know too much, but apparently I know quite a bit more than Butterfield. Let me assure you, unless you got your mortgage loan from big Tony with the gold chains, your interest rate will never rise because on non payment. An adjustable rate mortgage will only rise at specific times. You know, those specific times that are listed on the documents you signed. Shame on you Butterfield!

Sept 24...Tim...THE TV ON THE CABLE 7 SET...5:49 pm

It's better than before, but please get rid of the moving graphics on the big screen TV on the front of your desk. It's annoying to watch on Cable 7 and see the graphics moving around the screen while you guys are talking to the viewers.  Tell me any other TV show where they have that? It's toned down a little from the first time you changed the set, but it's still annoying. You're show was unwatchable back then with all the flashing colors.

Sept 24...Nanette...NEW WEBSITE (AND SOME OTHER STUFF)...10:53 am

New website is very nice.  First of all, I really enjoy the morning program.  I like the way that you and McGee chat in the morning.  Also like when Jen Holtz is on.

I am reeeeeeeaally excited about the prospect of being able to see Laura Ingraham in person. I admire here, she has been through tough times, and has kept her faith and her wits about her through it all.  I used to love when she would "spar" with Imus on his show.  Laura is the face and voice for Conservative Women, ( along with Sarah Palin of course.)  and beliefs.

I cannot stand Clark Howard.  He has a good position during the day and it is wasted on him.  I imagine he appeals to the 60-100 year olds, and Type-A women.   (I still think that Glenn Beck would make a great, great, great, great, awesome, addition to that time.  On the other hand, Bill O'Reilly is an Arrogant, Self-Observed, Self-Serving, Pragmatic, Boob, and I am not voting for him for any time slot on the station.
I like Neal Boortz and would enjoy another hour of him.  I like his wit, and candor. It is refreshing.

Nights and weekends are unfortunately not times when I listen, just because of the programming. I wonder how many other listeners are lost during this time.   Mike Savage's time has come and gone.  While I consider myself a Conservative, Savage's views are at times, maniacal.  both other night time programs could be trashed with; as far as I am concerned no loss. That Phil guy is an idiot. Does he pay for time on the station? What about George Noory?  Also that Humanist program on Sunday Nights is abhorrant.  The man begs for money every other sentence.

Weekend programming with less sports could bring in listeners who are unable to listen during the week.  Rebroadcasts or weekend wrap ups of shows like Glen Beck, Mike Gallagher, Dr. Laura, Mark Levin, are just some of the programming that I think would add to the line up.  There's  just too much sports on the weekend for anyone else to enjoy the station.  Often times, due to automation issues, the news or commercials  "bleeds" into regular programming.

I love WTIB, but it would be wonderful if the strong, clear signal could be put to better use and better, more veteran,  talent.

Sept 24...Terry...$5 EXCLUSIVE STREET PERMITS IN TRUNA NEIGHBORHOOD...7:43 am

Rumor on the street (no pun intended) is that the City's $5 aYear public street parking permit is going for $100.00 a permit persemester( pre issuance price- it may go higher) by the residents of thisarea that have sufficient parking in their driveways . I am told that therenters and some homeowners are just getting the permits to resell them tothe highest bidder. I guess you could say the permits have started anunderground small business economy. hmmm...tidy profit.

Since I pay $300/yrto park at ECU- this could be a deal for somebody. When I mentioned that the cars may be specifically noted on the permit, one person said “how are the police going to enforce it?” Good point- lets hire some more police officers to put chalk on the cartires and check all the permits against the red Ford on Jarvis to see thatit is the proper vehicle for the street- wait a minute the street will notbe noted on the permit or will it- what part of the street??

Hmmm Who thought up this dumb idea- and I thought the false alarm ordinancewas illogical.  This gets a very close second place. Good luck City management- while you are chasing down the scalped $5 streetpermits, chalking the tires and checking the permit locations, anotherconvenience store will be robbed... This is what you get when there is no public input in the process.

Sept 23...Marian...LOVE CLARK AND LAURA ON 94.3...5:53 pm

Love the new website.  Thanks for the great programming on 94.3.  I started listening a few months ago when a friend of mine told me about Clark Howard.  He is the best thing on talk radio.  He tells it like it is and like he says he tries to keep his listeners from getting ripped off.  It is a great service to the community to have him on the air in our city.  I also have learned to listen to Laura Ingram even though I had to get use to her voice.  She is a tough lady and I suspect she will one day run for office.  I'd vote for her!  My job requires me to be in my car during the day.  Thanks for the great programs on your station.  Keeps me company.

Sept 23...Tom...HOLTZ'S NEW CONTRACT...8:08 AM

With the new coach's continuity fund will we get a refund when Skip leaves. When Skips contract is purchased, do we get part of that $6,500,000.00 also?

Sept 22...Tim...ECU GAME...6:03 pm

I was at the game in Raleigh on Saturday. I know you are friends with coach Holtz, but he has nobody to blame for that loss but himself.  To go for the touchdown instead of the field goal on 4th down when they just stuffed you 3 times in a row was a bad decision. That's a bad  decision for any coach, any game,  in that situation. He defended his decision by saying he would do it again. I guess he doesn't learn from his mistakes.

Sept 22...Michelle...CURRENT PROGRAMMING SCHEDULE...2:53 PM

Enjoy the station. I would like to see a few changes in the programming though. Play all 3 hrs. of Neil Boortz, bring back Bill Oreilly, get rid of Michael Savage & move Rusty Humphries to that time slot and I would love to hear Paul Harvey again, nobody carries him in this area anymore!   THANKS!

Sept 22...William...OBVIOUS REASON WHY PIRATES LOST TO STATE...1:04 pm

Coach Holtz need not spend a lot of time trying to figure why we lost the game.  Certainly one reason was his decision to forgo the field goal in the first half.  It is almost an unwritten rule that in the first half, YOU ALWAYS TAKE THE POINTS.
But the main reason we lost is that our inability to stop the run was exposed.  When State got the ball in the overtime, everybody, and I mean everybody, knew they would not be passing.  Even then we could not stop the run game.  Whether it was coaching or the players, we should have been able to hold them to a field goal attempt.

What gives???

Sept 22...Scott...DISAPPOINTMENT OVER NC STATE LOSS LINGERS...9:17 am

I heard you guys talking about the State game this morning and I couldn't agree with you LESS!  The coaches made some horrible decisions duing that game and that is why we lost.  Running the ball up the middle over and over again on the goal line when they were stopping us over and over again was stupid.  And not kicking the field goal cost us the game.

Why does ECU always get close to something big and then find a way to blow it?  Most disappointing loss in ECU history.  We finally get noticed nationally and then prove all the naysayers correct by not taking care of business on the field.  Very disappointing.

Sept 19...David...SOME CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM FOR TALK OF THE TOWN...11:59 am

I live in Greenville and listen to the show most mornings while driving to work.  I enjoy it alot.  But I do want to offer some constructive criticism.  First, Henry please stop talking over the top of the guests.  I can't tell you how many times I have become frustrated because you ask a guest a question, then do not allow him/her to answer it before you interrupt with your own thoughts on the issue.  Second, please get rid of what I call the off the wall humor.  Innuendos, off the wall comments, the banter about what people did over the weekend, etc.  For example, you interviewed Coach McCarthy a couple of weeks or so ago; I think it was on a Friday at the Krispy Kreme.  The subject of the Pirates' bowl game last year in Hawaii came up.  You (Henry) said something about giving Coach's wife a "purple leigh".  Then you tried to joke about it, i.e., "I shouldn't talk about giving your wife a leigh should I?"  That sort of thing.  Clearly a sexual innuendo; go back and listen to the tape.  C'mon, really.  Do we need this type of juvenile stuff?  I think not.  I will say that this problem has improved alot since PJ left and took his constant references to drug-related "humor" and similar comments with him.  He was a bad influence on everyone else.

Now, these comments are pretty negative I suppose.  But please take them as constructive criticism.  I enjoy the variety of guests, the information about what's happening in the community, and the political commentary.  I really appreciate the valuable service provided to the listeners.  Just stay focused, clean it up a bit and remember that the guests' opinions are what we really want to hear!  Thanks for letting me sound off.

Sept 19...Terry...NEW PARKING RULES LATEST EXAMPLE OF TRUNA PRESSURE..1:49 pm

Once again the TRUNA  people , with help from the city council, are now discriminating against non TRUNA people in the use of PUBLIC city streets.

This has got to stop now

Sept 19...Carl Davis, Raleigh...LEO WOULD BE PROUD TODAY...9:32 am

His goal with ECU football was to make it part of the water cooler conversation across the state.  My first three conversations this morning, one lawyer, one university CFO, and one accountant, all started with a question to me about tomorrow's game.  None of them are state or ECU grads.  Nice job, Leo.

Sept 18...Buddy...REMEMBERING LEO JENKINS...3:49 pm

Enjoyed the blog today about Leo Jenkins.  I was in school at ECU and graduated in 1970.  I was in attendance for the first game with State as well as the 1971 victory.  I, too, sat in the rain until the game ended.  You are right about Leo Jenkins.  Without his leadership and vison ECU would not be what it is today not only in football but in many other areas.  Leo is the reason for the medical school.  He fought UNC on it and won.  He set the tone for the future chancellors to learn that you did not have to take no from the legislature just because the UNC people were working to keep us down.

Love your radio station and your new website.  Go Pirates.

Sept 16...David...IN RESPONSE TO "WHAT''S A GRYPHON"?...10:25 PM

In response to your question the other day about what is a gryphon       when the rocky mount schools merged in the early 70s the rocky mount blackbirds and the booker t Washington lions became the rocky mount senior high gryphons     a gryphon being a mythological animal that was half bird and half lion            on another un related topic   a couple of months or so ago  the subject of first lady pat Nixon was brought up    nobody seemed to recall that pat Nixon passed away about a year or so before Richard Nixon    enjoy your show and like your new web site  thanks

Sept 16...Mike...UNK'S NOT THE ONLY NEIGHBORHOOD NIGHTCLUB...9:17 am

In reference to this morning's conversations with Brian Colligan on Talk of the Town...

It fascinates me to compare/contrast zoning issues of DR.UNKs, located in a predominantly white middle class neighborhood, againt the nightclub on W. 5th Street (Club Fusion, I think is the name) in a predeominantly Af.American neighborhood: Why is one nightclub the subject of all this attention, and the other nightclub is never discussed....Why not do something to eliminate nightclubs in neighborhoods altogether to improve the neighborhood livibility, especially  in light of revitilization of W. Greenville...just food for thought.

Sept 16...Scott...ADVICE IF YOU'RE GOING TO UVA GAME...9:00 am

I enjoy the programming and listen each morning on the way to work.

Just wanted to pass along a note that Stub Hub has many tickets available as low as $7.00 a piece for the ECU vs Virginia game in Charlottesville.  I have been to two games watching FSU play Virginia in Charlottesville and have enjoyed the trip each time.  The campus is beautiful and the atmosphere is great.

If you plan to go, I would suggest staying in Richmond which is about an hour away and has many nice hotels at reasonable rates available.

I would encourage any Pirate fans to plan a trip to this away game.  You will be glad you did.

Sept 15...Jeffrey...PIRATE BOOTY IS EVERYWHERE...3:34 pm

Sept 14...Jerry from Wilson...WHERE WAS THE POST-GAME SHOW LAST NIGHT?...9:29 am

I always enjoy the postgame show with Henry and the guys after ECU games.  I tuned into 94.3 last night after the game and you guys had Sporting News Radio on the air.  Why was there no postgame show?  Thanks for all you guys do.  Love the new 94.3 and love the website.

STATION RESPONSE-  The Bud Light Post Game Show will air this season after every HOME game.  Thanks for listening!!!

Sept 13...Jack...PIRATES ARE 3-0...8:22 pm

Before all the moaning starts I ask this question.  How many people thought ECU would be 3-0 at this point of the season?  Even though they played bad at Tulane they still won and that's the sign of a great team.  To be able to overcome four turnovers and a stupid roughing the kicking penalty (Skip Holtz called that their 5th turnover) and still win shows this team has character.  Pinkney got them in the endzone when he had to.  Reminded me of what Jake Delhomme did last weekend in the Panthers first game with San Diego.  This Pirate team will prove the be the best in history!

Sept 12...Joseph...CUSA FINE EVIDENCE PIRATES SHOULD LEAVE CONFERENCE... 5:38 pm

The fine Conference USA has imposed on East Carolina is more evidence that we should get out of this bush league.  ECU has moved beyond this conference now.  If the Big East cannot see we are a great fit for them they must have some other agenda.  What other school in CUSA would have even had enough fans to storm the field like we did?  So then this is a fine the only ECU could receive.  Can you imagine something like this happening if Tulane should accidentally knock of the Pirates tommorrow?  No way.  How about UAB?  They draw flies to their games.  Even Southern Miss would never have enough people at the game to get this fine.  So, Terry Holland.  Turn up the heat on the Big East.  It's time to leave CUSA.

Sept 11...Nikki from Williamston...11:41 pm

I have listened to your radio show since early January when I started commuting from Williamston to Greenville. I AM ADDICTED!!!!  I really miss Patrick and the "spark" he brought to the show but I enjoy "The Christina's" and hope to hear more from them.  I like to hear a female perspective on TOTT.  Anywho...I wanted to share that I started taking Ultra 90 about one month ago and although I haven't seen big results, I hope to aspire to what you and your wife have accomplished.  I cannot help but suggest that since you have lost so much weight...you should really update your photos on your website.  I have seen you on Cable 7 so I know you have been doing great with your weight loss.  Again-thanks for making my commute memorable.  I actually RUN to the car in the AM to make sure I don't miss a minute of your show.

Sept 11...Roy...REGARDING UNK'S...3:25 pm

Consider the three sentences from your blog referencing the City Council vote on the request by Mr. Spengeman, the owner of Dr. Unks.

“The citizens of Greenville should applaud those people who volunteer their time on neighborhood groups in an effort to preserve a positive quality of life.  In this particular case it appears the people pushing the city council could push this one right into the courtroom.”

“It’s time to evaluate how much power the neighborhood groups have on city council decisions”

If the groups have so much influence then why do we still have students/landlords/ renters parking cars on lawns, trashing up curbs with excess garbage, sound restrictions going un-penalized, more than three unrelated individuals living in house and on and on.  All infractions that have city ordinances which Greenville is supposed to have a code enforcement division with the community seeing no reduction in these infractions

If the situation with Dr. Unks seems to pushy on the side of the neighborhood group, which I am a member of, so be it. Could it possible be the frustration of dealing with a inferior city government that can’t seem to hold a line?

Now I saw the edition where you interviewed Mr. Joyner, who is on the City Council, and I agree neither the council or the neighborhood group should be in the business of putting someone out of business. Mr. Joyner wondered if either parties had ever-come together to see if there could be a compromise. I have yet to hear if that has ever been approached, suggested or accomplished.

We all should be encouraging business opportunities in the downtown district and  we should be supporting Mr. Spengeman’s establishment, but not as a nightclub.  As a restaurant yes.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

Sept 11....Mitch...ECU ON THE RADIO IN ALBEQUERQE?...9:40 AM

I’m enjoying your move to fm and your new programming as well. I’m going to be in New Mexico this weekend, and I was wondering if you know if Tulane has a radio affiliate that might be broadcasting the game in Albuquerque? GO PIRATES!

Sept 11...Peg...MORE ON DR. UNK'S...8:20 am

In response to this particular comment on your blog:

The argument that we should all fight to preserve neighborhoods is, of course, accurate.  In this particular case it seems that argument should have been made long before now.  Why was the building Dr. Unk's occupies ever zoned to allow an establishment like this in the first place?  It seems Spengeman is being asked to pay too steep a price for a mistake made by the city years ago before he was ever on the scene.

This building IS NOT zoned to allow an establishment like Dr. Unk's. This is precisely the problem. Dr. Unk's has been operating in violation of Greenville zoning ordinances. Now the owners want the City to change its ordinances. The state definition of a restaurant, for permitting sale of alcoholic beverages, has changed over the years. Greenville's definition of a restaurant, for zoning purposes, has not.

Additionally, I and others who were living in the neighborhood at the time, DID write our concerns to the City Manager, in the year 2000, prior to the opening of Main Street Beer Co. which was the first restaurant ever to locate in this particular neighborhood commercial zone at the location that is now Dr. Unk's. Main Street Beer Co. came into this location as a "restaurant" and as such was supposed to operate under the City's zoning ordinances - greater than 50% of sales in food, no cover charge. By the way, back then the state's definition of a restaurant for permitting purposes was 40/60 food to alcohol sales. This was changed to 30/70 in the year 2002.

Unfortunately, the City does not regulate hours of operation of businesses in neighborhood commercial zones. To me, that is the real crux of the problem.

Sept 10...Pirate Santa...7:35 pm

To start with I love the morning drive with your station....On Wed. you were talking about the artical in the Kinston Free Press...You were saying thar Billy Smith was the spokesman for the Lenior Co.Sheriffs dept. He is the sheriff...and Chris Hill is the spokes person...

Now to the legal stuff....As where the Lenior co. law agents were hired by ECU,,, They were acting agents of ECU...Just as if you hired me to clean your office and I left the floor wet and Skip Holtz slipped and broke his leg, you would be held accountable and not myself.

As a Pirate fan who has been to every game "home and away" for the last 10yrs. It is very upsetting to see all the bad on TV and very little of the good!!! Were the students and the general population wrong to storm the field???? could have been!!!! Was the law inforcement wrong to beat the hell out of this kid???? YES!!!!  The answer to all the problems will soon be solved when we bowl in the score board side...I listen every morning and will keep it up as long as you are on the air

Sept 10...Tom...8:36 AM

It's been confirmed that it was a Lenoir County deputy seen on ESPN video punching a fan with a closed fist.
That from Major Chris Hill with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Department this morning.
On the tape the deputy in a brown uniform is seen repeatedly striking a fan who made it on the ECU field after Saturday's win over West Virginia.
Yesterday, the student who claimed to be punched said it was a Lenoir County deputy who hit him.

Sept 9...POLITICS...Bill...1:47 pm

OK...I just have to say something about the way the media (y'all included) are portraying McCain's reasoning for his selection of a running mate, trivializing it - as if his primary condition was choosing a minority.  If that was truly the case, why wouldn't he have picked Condoleezza Rice and get the best of both gender AND race?  No, I'm a little surprised (although by now I shouldn't be) at the media's short-sighted reasoning. Could it possibly be that Gov. Palin might actually have good experience in foreign policy ...isn't Alaska bordered by Russia and Canada?  And couldn't it be that McCain see's a bit of the Maverick in her that he's so well known for?

If it's really true that he picked her just because she's female, maybe he really isn't capable of making good decisions for our country.  Or maybe he really does have what's best for our country in mind and see's potential in others that will help him accomplish that ...

Nah - it's just simply like the Alaskan bumper sticker says, "Cold State, Hot Governor".

Sept 9...WHO'S IN CHARGE?...Jeff...12:38 pm

I have heard a lot about the several police departments involved in the incidents after the game on Saturday.  However let's not forget that someone from the university was in overall charge of the law enforcement task force. The police and sheriff departments obviously wouldn't be allowed to freelance security.  So here are some interesting questions:

    1.  Who was the university representative in charge of the various law enforcement agencies?
    2.  What was briefed to the security detail; what were their duties and responsibilities.
    3. Was there communication between the university rep and the security detail?
    4. The incidents took place over a period of several minutes; was any effort made by the university to reign in the detail?

The university pays for security, however, I have not heard anyone take ownership of the security detail. Neither the Athletic dept or and other agency associated with the university has admitted responsibility..  Instead, I have read and heard only that investigations are ongoing.  There were 40,000 witnesses to the beatings and yet our athletic director says he wasn't one of them!

The university owes an apology not only to the students who were brutalized, but to the paying fans that were forced to witness the abuse.

Sept 9...Roy...10:02 am

In listening, reading in the local papers and now reading the comments posted on your listener board, I’m disturbed at the continued level of aggression presented around our community, not only by authorities but also by those who feel it’s justified based on the nature of the event.

With a crowd as large as the one attending the ECU/ West Virginia game, the ability to control that many people, if the decision to do as many did- enter the field-  is impossible.  ECU’s Police Chief Scott Shelton stated in Monday’s press conference the instructions where to make a presence, deter people from coming over the fence and detain individuals that did.  That is all that should have been done.

However, being part of the excitement, yelling, screaming for your home team does not give authority to enter the field at anytime. Is it to be expected this will happen given history/traditions of sporting events?  You bet and those who decide to act on that moment must also take responsibility for their actions and the penalties that may be levied as of those acts.

We as a community seem to be asking for the unattainable, respect and civility from and for  all individuals.  It is not impossible, but if we don’t find a way to develop these two back into our basic core values what kind of yelling, screaming, tailgating celebrating experience will there be in a few years.

Sept 9...Chuck from Greenville....8:41 am

*Lenoir county police are obviously bitter that Patrick Johnson left for the capital city.

*The TRNA has been trying to turn the college neighborhood into West Greenville for 30 years. It seems now they are getting close with all the crime and the fact that they would rather have empty commercial space instead of a great neighborhood bar/restaurant. Kitrell, its time to be the man!

*Love the new website...have always loved TOT.

*Kelsy the intern is almost as hot as Vitale...Beautiful women on the show are always appreciated. Christine Kennedy's version of happy birthday has shelved my cialis.

We cry about being treated like the step child in football and then we are shown on national tv beating our fans.  No wonder we feel like a step child because our program acts like a step child.

Sept 8...John...1:43 pm

A friend of mine just emailed me from Greenville and said the ECU-Tulane game may be moved to Greenville this weekend.  Is this true?  If so what time?  Is there TV coverage for this game?

Sept 8...Kim...10:37 am

That was wrong of the cops doing that to a fan or student that cop was beating him that i saw 5 times that is very wrong and something needs to be done about

Sept 8...Timothy...10:08

The police actions after the game on Saturday were disgraceful. I was in the first row in the upper deck on the scoreboard side and saw the entire situation unfold. First, a fan ( he was older so he might not have been a student) ran onto the field. The cop tried to tackle him and he got away. Then the cop chased him into the middle of the field where the celebration was going on. The cop caught up to him, handcuffed him, and escorted him back to the end zone area. When that cop realized that all the students were pouring onto the field, he un-cuffed him, and let him go. Not so for other students. One cop had a student on the ground and was elbowing him in the back of the head. I wish the police were this aggressive with the criminals who knock off convenient stores, restaurants and gas stations eack week in this town. Everybody's blaming the cops, which they should, but I believe the University should ultimatelyl be held responsible. They created this situation by making a unenforceable, ridiculous, stupid rule about not running on the field to celebrate with the team. Did they think it wouldn't happen.  By the way, all the students walked off the field calmly in several minutes. Nice going ECU!

Sept 8...Mark...7:53 am

The only positive thing to come out of this is that students will think twice before they storm the field again.  However, this is what the college experience is supposed to be about, screaming your head off for the team and then celebrating the victory.  What are the police thinking?  This was totally unjustified.  And very embarrasing for our university.

Sept 8...Jeff...8:12 am

I witnessed two different students get slammed to the ground and then they were beaten unmercifully by these idiot cops.  How can they justify this?  This is a real black eye for ECU.  I hope these officers are held accountable for this.  Thank God they weren't beating on any minority kids.  ECU would be on the front page of every newspaper in the country this morning.

Sept 7...1:40 pm...Chris from Greenville

You guys need to expose the absurd police brutality that went on after the game.  There were a lot of students who were just haphazardly singled out by the stupid rent-a-cops working the game.  How did they decide which students they did the beat down on?  I saw one poor kid on the ground with two cops wailing on him.  Shame on them.  Dr. Ballard needs to call for an investigation of this.  I hope the families sue the police for what happened.

Sept 5...1:21 pm.. Lisa from Greenville

Why can’t the game be moved to SUNDAY!!!  Is there a city code on having on a Sunday in Pitt County!!

Sept 5...7:54 am...UPDATE FROM OWNER OF DR. UNK'S, JEREMEY SPENGEMAN

Love the new website!  As a now avid listener since my appearance, I thought I would write and give you an update on my Proposed Ordinance Amendment to change the City Ordinance requiring a restaurant to have 50% food sales to comply with the NC State Statute requirement of 30% food sales.  While I feel the Daily Reflector has done a good job of reporting on both past and today's articles I feel the unbiased opinion which is required does not give the current findings in my favor justice.

In my discussions with a former NC ABC Commissioner, current NC ABC Commission Administrator and two NC ABC Attorneys, all stated that NC Statute supersedes City Ordinance and that the Statute preempts in local zoning ordinance.  In fact, Mike Herring, NC ABC Commission Administrator stated, "There is no way the city can work around the State Statute. NC ABC Attorney Morse has advised you correctly."  Fred Gregory, Chief Counsel for NC ABC Commission confirmed this saying, "The statutes controlling food sales for a mixed beverage restaurant are clear on their face.  Moreover, GS 18B-100 which states local ordinances that establish different rules for the sale of alcoholic beverages are prohibited is also clear.  I would further suggest that the reason there are no court opinions on this matter is simply because of the clarity of the controlling statutes."

Mr. Holec  spoke with David Owens of the UNC School of Government concerning this matter  whose opinion was of the City Ordinance was that it "may be able to withstand a challenge of preemption by the statutory definition of a restaurant for ABC permit purposes."  This is the only person Mr. Holec was able to report was in agreement with the City's stance that the City Ordinance is possibly legal and could possibly be upheld.  A colleague of Professor Owens, James Drennan of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Government  found, “The ABC Permitting process preempts local zoning rules,” as decided in Melkonian v. Board of Adjustment.  In a research paper on this subject, Mr. Drennan further discusses the process which the ABC Commission goes through to, decide whether the applicant and location are ‘suitable’.  The statute lists several factors that the Commission should consider, including the character of the applicant, the number of permits in the area, proximity to schools and churches.  And, considering the applicant’s history, whether the business would be detrimental to the neighborhood.”  The NC ABC Commission determined to grant Unk's Permit after reviewing all factors as determined by Chapter 18B and therefore Unk's has the right to continue in business as protected by NC Statute.

Hopefully, the City Council will choose one of the two options that will allow my restaurant to remain in business without having the City pursue action in Superior Court.  Superior Court could prove to be a huge financial undertaking for both the City and my business that I feel are unnecessary as all but one person consulted by City Staff and myself confirmed that NC ABC Statute preempts local zoning ordinance.

Another headline in the paper today announced "Two More Retailers Announce Closing".  In this tough economy one would think the City would applaud and assist successful local business owners instead of destroying their futures and hard work.

Sept 4...8:42 am..Debra..TALK OF THE TOWN AND SARAH PALIN

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy listening to you guys in the morning on the way to work. I find that after getting my 10 year old son ready for school and rushing off to work, I feel a little stressed getting started. But you guys make my day for I find myself laughing on the way to work just listening to you. You help bring me up to date on things going on in Greenville and I do appreciate being able to relax and have a fun time with you each morning on the way to work. You help put my day on the right track.

I chose to stay up last night to listen to Sarah Palin and I am very proud to say I was pleased in what she said and how she handled herself. I will support her 100% and I guess you can tell who I am voting for. I feel she has class and will be for the people and not just for herself.

Thanks for being there in the morning to make my day.
